GOO - i would also factor in the impact all the hard work of youth and middle school programs that Woodford and a few of the traditional powerhouse programs fell behind on a few years back. Woodford & Campbell are 2 that come to mind that let schools like Fern Creek (Trinity), Larue, Union, & Ryle build really far superior feeder programs. I'd say the Carr's are fine, but they haven't had the same material to work with that some of these other programs have. Campbell & Woodford have caught on, but they're still playing catch up.

If ever a dad was anything but "failing" it's Mr. Lampe. He's one dedicated dad. Glad to see something nice happening to a good family. Congrats Lampes!

MS Head Coaches need to check email for reschedule proposals!
pioneer_pride replied to oldhamwrestler's topic in Youth Wrestling
that only applies for KHSAA sanctioned events. the middle school state has nothing to do with khsaa as they have made abundantly clear. -
MS State is cancelled for tomorrow Feb. 6th

they also shared the costs. this is going back 3 or 4 years, but they paid for refs, a trainer, i think there was some costs for security...trophies (not medals). we asked at the statewide meeting if anyone else wanted to host it, McCreary said they were interested...but then they couldn't get the gym. i'm not saying it's not a sweet deal for them, but it's not as sweet as it may sound. -

unless it has changed recently, ch always kept concessions, and i think they split the gate. it was a very reasonable deal, and central hardin has always done a great job. coach pike and his gang handled a lot of the coordination of things. in my opinion, the KSWA should reschedule for next weekend, maybe on Sunday, and wrestle it with whoever shows up. if a h.s. coach tells his 8th grade 103 lbs kid he can't wrestle in it, that's their call. unless the kid is a serious contender to make the podium in frankfort, i don't think you should keep them from wrestling at m.s. state, but to each his own. my heart goes out to a lot of these 8th graders that have busted their tails for the past few years....taken their lumps... for their shot at the gold to have it taken away like this is terrible. -
An interesting note about Larry Owing, a friend of my younger brothers is making a documentary about him. He spent a week at the guy's house and pretty much got his whole story. It's basically telling how a guy who trained his whole life to beat a legend like Dan Gable but after he did the sport basically made him into a villain. I'll post a link to more info about it when the movie comes out.

First off, a grown man starting a post with OMG is more fitting of the queen ant role than anyone else on here. Secondly, floridafan looked up the term grapplesack, but you NAMED yourself a grapplesack. Wear your crown with pride queen ant. -

Hey man, thanks a lot for noticing i was an idiot on here! It's always nice to be appreciated. -
I agree with you on all this. One question though, would the host school or host school district be in any way liable for an accident if a guest school traveling to their event had an accident and kids were hurt? Even if that is the case, I would still think they could hold off on cancelling until they actually start seeing some snow. Not sure how accurate the weather forecasts are in Lexington, but in the Cincinnati area it's probably 50/50....maybe 60/40.

the supe's always struck me as very relaxed, easy going kids about wrestling. they're tough kids, but don't seem to take it to the extreme serious level of commitment that others do. it would be scary how good they'd be if they did.

hey mudslinging jackass, this may not be the best time to mention this since you appear to be broken, but it's chameleon not camilion. you must have got camilion from your public school ejucation. JUST KIDDING everyone. but seriously, it is chameleon. i'll give you credit for getting the blood pumping on the message boards again and bringing up a subject that is mostly taboo and discussed behind everyone's backs. you are a MASTER deBATER. as ryledad said like 10 pages before, the rules probably need to be looked at. but my kid's a senior, and there's a long time away before 5T unleashes his wrath on kywrestling, hopefully it's all squared away by then. -
Did Gray switch to the club division? They were always strictly a school division team.

GOO - I got to hand it to you, you have a great outlook on things and a very clear thought process. This whole thread has turned into a podium for ripping on Trinity, Hall, or Bradbury. Any way we adults look at it or discuss it, come state time Ryle & Trinity are going to war, and Bradbury and Hall are gonna have another show down. It'll be classic. No matter what we all think about the catholics, the out of state kids, etc.... you can bet your ### all of the teams involved have dotted every i, and crossed every t. All kids are "technically" legal and all the coaches/programs did things by the book. Let's move on. -

if the kid wrestled for a public school in the 7th & 8th grade, and then transferred to a private school he would be penalized by the khsaa by losing 1 year of eligibility. it's really not too difficult to understand. try reading slower. -

grapplesack, you're all over the map with this. teams competing in the regular season out of state is a choice of each team and they can all do it. private schools, public schools. so whats your point? if those schools don't like out of state kids from taking their medals, they just don't invite them. that's not relevant to 2 kids both living in this state, one can wrestle varsity and one can't without being penalized. what would be fair is let both kids wrestle with their h.s. when they are in middle school or let neither. in kentucky you are penalized for transferring schools, in ohio i believe you are allowed 1 move in 4 years. don't make this about the whole state is picking on a "little boy who moved in from out of state". you want to talk about whinning, read your post about how the catholics all win the state titles in football because they can recruit from all over louisville. is that fair? it's within the rules? -

I guess the only difference I'm seeing and I think what workhard is pointing out is that Mark Hall is allowed to compete as a 7th grader in our state and his kid (Lampe) is not because of the high school they are choosing for him to go to. I agree they are both operating within the rules. It's just one gets to take a shot at being a 6X state champ here, and another kid who has lived here his whole life does not get the same shot. -

Good point workhard. I never thought of the private school kids, but you have a good point. But I always wondered with Fahy and others, why don't they just wrestle for the public high school district they are in while they are in 7th & 8th grade, and then go on to St. X or Trinity starting in the 9th grade. Is there a rule against that? If so, then I agree with you 100% the rules in this case are hurting our kids. -
Region 6 is Campbell County & I think Simon Kenton.

Best pound for pound wrestler in kentucky?
pioneer_pride replied to Ptwrestling's topic in 2010 Season
fireplug, you have to see this 7th grader with your own eyes to understand just how good he is. if you go to yappi.com, there are people who have seen him in Ohio who think he might be a future olympian. i would say as a 7th grader he probably is top 10 pound for pound best in this state right now....he is that good as a 7th grader. if he continues to improve up until his senior year (no doubt that he will) he will be much better than all the kids on this list. in my opinion the only kid at 119 that has a shot at beating him is Myron. -
i believe the rest of their lineup are all kids that came up through their feeder program. 103, 215, & hwt, I didn't see who they had or know who they were....but they weren't spectacular like Hall. they just have a very solid lineup.
-
he's 12 years old, and an absolute phenom. lost to Myron Bradbury 7-5 in a nail biter at the raider rumble. he beat a kid who took 3rd in Virginia from Grundy, 10-0. you can google him and read up a lot on him, he's on flowrestling.com, he is an awesome wrestler. he moved in from Michigan, and he's wrestling 119 for Ryle. I would guess he'll be in the finals with Myron at state. this is not an urban legend, he is awesome! you won't believe your eyes when you see him wrestle when you realize he's 12 years old.

Kentuckywrestling.com HS Rankings 2009/2010 - December 5
pioneer_pride replied to Ranger123's topic in High School Rankings
I spoke to the dad involved in the incident that grapplehed was referring to a while back. He was at a meet in Ohio and half way into the event a coach raised a fuss and he was not allowed to wrestle. They took it as high as it can go in Ohio and found out that (at least in Ohio) the bylaws in Ohio stated that a kid is eligible in their home state, they are eligible in Ohio. I would think Indiana/Kentucky has a similar case, if not, wouldn't Kentucky teams raise a bigger stink about Indiana kids being eligible at age 19 their senior year? -
That made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up! Has Been, you're gonna get mom fired up!! I would like to add that when Kyle wrestled Metcalf last year - I think at the Midlands - the match was closer than the score indicated. I'm hoping another year of working hard Kyle has closed the gap.
