Kentuckywrestling.com 2024-25 Season Rankings - January 1

Recommended Posts

Let's start the new year off with a fresh set of rankings.  I did a fairly thorough run through of a ton of results.  But it is only as good as the coaches are with putting results in the system.  I will give wrestlers/coaches about 2 weeks and I will then remove anyone that I can't find any results in track.

Rankings notes:

- Union has a substantial gap on the field.  If Jordyn doesn't compete that puts a dent in their lead, but doesn't totally erase it.  JC and PT are the clear 2-3 teams, but they also have some question marks in their lineups.  We should see get a better sense of those items in the next couple weeks.  I have Ryle and Boyle close for 4-5, then another group with SK, OC, and Harrison at 6-8.

- It feels like we have a number of "next topic" weights.  Although I am hopeful that we see contenders step up to challenge.  But a couple of weights are starting to look REALLY interesting.  For me, those are 126 and 144.  We should get a good look at both of these weights at the Warhawk this weekend at Great Crossing.

Hello, I’m new to the forum. I just thought I could lend alil insight in reference to a couple of Mason Co. boys that everyone is sleeping on. Ranger123 you have Evan Martin ranked in 106 lb. at #14. That’s alil low in my opinion but hey it’s your list. Main problem I have is he’s been wrestling 113 lb. all year except the first match I believe. He’s 7-0 in his last two match’s, George Rodger’s Clark Dec. 21 (5-0), and today Jan. 2 at Boyd (2-0). He faced young man from Tates Creek Aidan Ruiz #6 at GRC and it was not even close! Martin out wrestled %6 on Rank Wrestler (Ruiz) giving him his only loss by way of major decision! It was a good match. He wrestled up a weight class against a Dixie Heights wrestler who didn’t stand a chance with Martin pinning his bigger opponent. Martin is a contender and should not be overlooked! He’s definitely one of the best wrestlers to step on the mat every single match. Another one of Mason Co.’s overlooked talents is Creston Fuller in 138 lb. weight class. Rank Wrestler has him at #30, but that is a very underrated analysis of his talent! This kid has beaten some very talented wrestlers with only 2 loses on the season thus far to Ren Birk #6 in 144 lb., and Trae White #17 in 144 lb. Since dropping weight to 138 lb. the young man has not lost! I believe that both of these kids are going to make some waves in the upcoming Regional tournament. I believe without a doubt that they both qualify for state, and honestly I look for both to do very well at state. I know that both of these boys are members of the Spatola Wrestling school in Fort Thomas and it shows every time they step on the mats! Very well rounded wrestlers. Mark my words, if you haven’t seen them wrestle yet, give it time……… you will! Thanks for your diligence and dedication to your list, and thank you for letting me share some insight.

I'm curious as to how Colin Combs (Perry County Central) isn't ranked at 215? So far this year, he has over 30 wins (which leads the state) and has beat ranked wrestlers. The one loss he does have is to an out of state opponent. Feels like a decent sized oversight...

The only ranked win I see is him beating #29 the day before rankings came out. He is tied for the top spot in the pin rankings. He will be top 30 next time.

The only ranked win I see on track is against #29 Jones who he also has a lost to.  I wouldn't say that much of an oversight quite yet.

Not sure what you are referring to about Ruiz.  Martin is ranked just ahead of Ruiz.  When he beats higher ranked kids or those kids have losses that would indicate such, he will move up. And fyi, when he is moved to 113 his ranking will not improve.  He has losses to Cano (Great Crossing) and Mort (Central Hardin) who is ranked #17.

Again, Fuller lost to White (Henry Clay) who is ranked #23 at 138, so until he has wins to justify his ranking it will be tough to get there.

It is great to see Mason County making strides.  Hope they do well at region and beyond.

The same wrestler #29 Seth Jones also came back and pinned this kid at the Tates Creek Invitational. It looks like it’s 1-1 for these boys.

Jace bowling :( where rank?

Only get one kid per team per weight.  Had Nottingham ranked for Boyd.  That will be adjusted now that we have results in track.

Trying to figure out when the next rankings come out, and if these take into account actual participation in a weight class this season.

Probably next week.  The goal is for this to somewhat project the end of the season, so I want to rank kids at the weight I expect them to compete in at the end of the year and not move them around as they bounce between weights all season.  This next update should reflect weights that almost every kid has participated in.  Kids who don't have results should get removed or moved to the weight they have competed at. Coaches are busy and don't always get the results in very timely.

Great point and everyone should remember the rankings dont really matter, they are just for fun.

If you want to be successful in this sport you have to have a blatant disregard for rankings. Does the higher ranked wrestler get spotted a few points? Do they get to start with a leg? Do they get a gun and you get a knife?

Make sure you wrestle the opponent and not their ranking. No one can bring their medals on the mat with them. You gotta go out and prove it every day. No one wears an S on their chest. And even if he does find his Kryptonite. Everyone is vulnerable everyone is capable of being beat. Stop giving a darn who you wrestle or what they are ranked. Wrestle aggressively and focus on the two things you can always control: Effort & Attitude.

Mindset Tip- Write down 100 times “I don’t give a darn who I wrestle”

I have this on the wall of my wrestling room and also put it as the 2nd page in the packet I hand out to my wrestlers every year.

2A section 7 duels finally happened last night in Monticello. The duel had to get rescheduled due to weather from last weekend, but ultimately Boyle County and Corbin advanced

Micah Thompson 157 at Boyle County broke the school record for wins last with his 188th leading to another sectional dues championship.
Track for some reason having trouble updating Boyle's Paul McClure's total from his freshman year school, but notched his 101st win in the heavyweight division, with over 80 by pin and a handfull of tech falls. Kid is a beast.

Bad break for Corbin, losing their big boy to a really unfortunate shoulder injury early in the night.

Any updates on the boys rankings? I think there's a lot of folks really want to see if we have a better idea of who for now  is wrestling in what weight class.
