sbfraz 8 Report post Posted February 9, 2012 Does anyone know when/where the region 6 (South) youth tourney is? We have received lots of conflicting info. It's in Wayne County on the 12th, Wayne County the 11th, Paintsville the 11th. We don't need to pre-register; we do. If anyone has any info, it would be appreciated. 2yankees3 2 Report post Posted February 13, 2012 There was no region 6 tournament. Wayne county had 21 kids and Taylor county 2. Whitley wrestled with wayne twice a week ago, but didnt have the coaches to wrestle in a regional. Coach Bozeman is coaching both the high school team and youth. McCreary also didnt have the coaches. Emails were sent to schools that in the region that have had teams in the past. No one responded other than Taylor county. Gene Wolf who is the youth President also sent emails to all the coaches that the youth association had on file. The tournament wasnt held because of lack of response. This is unfortunate. Wayne county is attempting to change regions in the off season in order to have teams to wrestle. They cuurently go to tennessee every weekend and wrestle AAU. We also went to Tennessee to wrestle AAu the last two weekends. We also tried to get put in another region. I hope we get something worked out for next year. 2yankees3 2 Report post Posted February 13, 2012 The youth wrestling in Tennessee is ran better at this point than it is here. Wayne county wrestles in their regional and state tournaments because of our location. We are within 50 miles of the state line and they allowed us in. Their tournaments use actual weight classes instead of using the 10% rule. That rule can lead to 2nd and 3rd graders wrestling 8, 9, and 10 pound differences. That is too much. Also, most tournaments in ky are on sunday and 2 or 3 hours away for us. Its to hard on young kids to wrestle on sunday afternoon and then ride 3 hours and then get up for school the next morning.
