Ky Derby- Calvin Borrel

Recommended Posts

Lets face it, if you put the Cajun Calvin on a 50-1 horse and you give him the rail, alot of people are going to be rich. Now lets see if little Calvin can give us our first triple crown winner since Seattle slew in 77. the odd are strongly against him, I Want Revenge , well his name says enough, is prolly going to be salty in the Belmont and Preakness. but once again you better ' Mind that Bird' especially if calvin is up.

Calvin Borel is a beast. I love the way he rides with such passion. He was genuinely excited and happy after the Derby. The horses name was "Mine that Bird" though. On ESPN it was saying that he may not run at Preakness or Belmont, and that they would probably go with 2nd placer or 3rd placer.

Maybe now he can afford to buy him some teeth.

for real. he won the oaks, then won four races'  derby day. but i assure you Mine that Bird will run in both. that trainer didn't drive him to the east coast from New Mexico himself just to run for the roses. but now that i think about it, I Want Revenge will prolly jerk everybodies head off at the Belmont, and Preakness. any in take? any derby goers? any big money winners? i know i lost 20 bucks the other day.

I work at Wal-Mart in Oak Grove, Ky which for most who don't know is located off of I-24 and right down the road from Ft. Campbell. I'm a cashier and was checking some dude and a lady out and the guy was kinda short. They were both wearing these fancy Kentucky Derby jackets (north face type?) and I asked them how they liked it. The guy was like ah, it was alright. The lady was like it was awesome! Come to find out he said that he was a jockey in the derby! He got 6th place and said he was heading back to Louisiana. It was such a coincidence that someone like that who raced in that big of a race came to one of the smallest towns in KY and was traveling from so far up north. It was very awesome, anyone know who got 6th place? haha Me and my supervisor were talking about it and those odds are ridiculous! If you put 2 bucks down on that horse you would've left with 100 bucks! No wonder this is one of the biggest horse races there is!

This coming Friday my dad has a horse running at churchhill, and Calvin Borrel's agent contacted my dad and said " would you be willing to run this friday if calvin will ride?" of course my dad said yes. so tune into TVG this friday and try to catch the horse Magical Prize.

not churchill? ur right its better. much much better horses, bigger daily stakes, the shek comes every year for gods sake. the only thing that keeps the derby in louisville is the capacity that keenland holds, much lower than that of churchill, and the fact of tradition.

Wait wait wait. Are you trying to make the argument that Keenland is better than Churchill Downs at any aspect of horse racing?

trying? its a logical fact. my dad is a horse trainer, my brother is his exercise rider, i have been a stable hand for the past summers, and i have been on the race track since pat day was the labron james of horse racing, i have been betting $2 exacta boxes since before i could do multiplication tables. but instead of a pissing contest i'll use facts. Every day , twice a year keenland holds atleast one $50,000 stake, EVERY DAY!!!!! lets see Mike Smith, Joe Talamo, Edgar Prado, Calvin Borel, Jose Vernandez, Jerry Bailey, Robby Alberado(before he retired) all the best Jockeys make sure they are at Keenland for the whole meet, and riding a good 85 to 95% OF ALL THE RACES IN THAT MEET. At churchill however, theres a high stake once sometime twice a week, all the jockeys are there for the oaks, and derby, and then leave a week later to get to the Preakness. There agents make them. Agreed that churchill draws a bigger crowd on derby and oaks day. but how many record breaking days happen on other days?? go to a simple Maiden Claiming race and see the crowd....nothing but simulcasters, trainers, and a few $15000 horse owners. a big big big difference from the million dollar horses that are on the track everyday at Keenland. Ok i'll give you that the Queen of England herself went to Churchill for the run for the roses, but the Sheik him self comes every year to keenland, and has enough power to change what everybody is wearing ( the open shoe rule) about the only respect the queen got was an escort and a mint julep. ok i give u that churchill can hold twice as many ppl that k-land, but only two days out the year are they full. Ohh and one more thing POLYTRACK is better than DIRT, just ask eight bells from last year.

Chill out Mack. It's not that big of a deal bro. Lol. I couldn't care less.

But the Sheik was at Churchill for the Derby too. The fact is that the Kentucky Derby is the grandaddy of all of horse racing, and its at Churchill Downs. That's all I care about.

yea i know im sorry, it just grinds my gears :-D, when people disagree with me, if you can't tell, its a habit i have to break. but yes the Sheik was at churchill but you also have to understand that him and Ken Ramsey of Ramsey Farms (leading owner at churchill, keenland, AMERICA haha)  owned two horses in the derby and the oaks so of course they had to be there. 385 your one of my fav people to talk to on here cause most of the timeyou know what you are talking about, i consider you a friend and i hope the feeling is mutual, so if i ever go over the top with you, just calm me down like you just did. I totally agree with you on the the Ky Derby is ONE of the Granddaddy races( breeders  cup, and preakness can sometimes bring on more competition because owners will wait to see what happens at the derby to determine whether or not they will run in the rest of the crown) but the only reason that the derby is at churchill is because k-land can only hold about 75000

Ok way to go Calvin, we could of had a triple crown winner, but no he had to change mounts. but what would you do, ride the filly goddess that won the oaks, or the derby "fluke" that apparently can run.

If that race was another 10 feet, Mine That Bird is running for a triple crown. I can't be mad at Calvin, I mean, Rachel Alexandra absolutely destroyed the Oaks.

exactly. but the racing world and all the people that have a hand in it are as of right now kinda doomed. we really really really needed a triple crown winner to boost the recognition of the sport. back in the day the derby was bigger than the super bowl, best 2 mins in sports. now in the near future i can see the race being broadcasted on nothing but espn360 :-(. yea but calvin had another hell of a race. but mine that bird will win the belmont pencil it in and this is why, hes going to be running by himself, i think the only GOOD derby horse that is talking about it is Musket Man, and im pretty sure he isnt going to run.
