pridewrestler 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2008 WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. -- Union County rolled to a 65-point win in Saturday's West Frankfort Redbird Invitational as Jarvis Elam was named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler.The 103-pound Elam was one of eight Brave wrestlers to win their weight divisions, joining Aaron Carr (112), Jake Wempe (125), Caleb Ervin (130), Luke Ervin (135), Isaac Ervin (145), Mitch Ervin (160) and Diante Wright (189). Jarrod Burke took second at 171, while Isaac Thomas (112) and Matt Young (140) finished third.Union County totaled 242 1/2 points, while Highland was second with 177 in the 10-team field.The Braves visit Mount Vernon, Ind., on Thursday and Brentwood, Tenn., on Friday and Saturday. It was there that the Braves wrestlers shocked the crowd by holding onto a 14-point lead after the first day of competition.Finishing second out of a field of 17 teams from Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois. Coming close to win against Indiana powerhouse Mater Dei, the Braves just weren't able to out on top as they fell short.The top four teams at the Classic were Mater Dei with 219 points, Union County with 172, Avon Indiana with 162 and Evansville Memorial with 151.5.Jarvis Elam moved to the top of the State rankings by defeating Myron Bradbury from Trinity in the championship match. Also winning first at the Mater Dei Classic was Aaron Carr (119) and Mitch Ervin (160).Issac Ervin placed second in the 145-pound division while Caleb Ervin placed third in the 130-division, Diante Wright placed fourth in the 189-division and Jake Wempe placed fifth in the 125-division.Traveling to West Frankfort, IL, the Braves continued their domination as they competited in the Redbird Classic. There, they won the team championship by out distancing the second place team by 65 points. With eight wrestlers in the Championship round, it was Jarvis Elam that claimed a title in the 103-pound division, as well as being awarded the MVP of the tournament.Aaron Carr continued his dominance of the 119-pound division by pinning his opponent in the championship match. Jake Wempe won the 125-pound division by a fall while freshman teammate Caleb Ervin claimed the 130-division. Luke Ervin placed first at the 135-pound division while Isaac Ervin was first in the 145-pound division.Mitch Ervin increased his unbeaten streak to 78-0 by winning the 160-pound division. Diante Wright won the 189-pound weight division while Jarrod Burke placed second at 171. Isaac Thomas and Matt Young both placed third at 112 and 140 respectively.The Braves will be in action this Thursday in Mount Vernon Indiana where they will compete against the Mount Vernon High School. Vernon on Thursday night.Winners with pins for the Braves were Neal Reburn, 103 pounds; Aaron Carr, 119; Isaac Ervin, 145; Josh Willett, 152; Mitch Ervin, 160; and Diante Wright, 189.Also winning for Union were Isaac Thomas, 112; Jake Wempe, 125; Luke Ervin, 135; and Jarrod Burke, 171.The Braves travel to Brentwood, Tenn., today and Saturday before hosting Caldwell County next Thursday.
