KentuckyWrestling.com HS Rankings - 2007/2008 Pre-season October 14

Recommended Posts

Okay, the season officially starts up tomorrow with the first day of practice for some teams.  With that I wanted to start it off with a ranking update.  Lots of interesting updates already and I'm sure there will be many more to come as everyone gets into the wrestling room and gets into shape.  As usual keep the info flowing in as you have updates on weights.  Now that the season is open I will post updates every 2 weeks and every week once matches are underway.

Great Job with the rankings.  While Campbell County will have a  great team this year, I do not think they have the fire power to be in the top 3.  I am projecting around a 5-9 finish for them.

The shift in team standings is a direct result of the shifting of the individual rankings.

Is this your way of saying "Look it up for yourself"?  :-D

I know you probably spend way to much time on this.  Your wife must think your getting paid for this. :-D

I thought there might be a simple answer to the change.  I don't know most of these kids, and everyone was saying how good Trinity was going to be.  Now they moved down to 3rd.

I think everyone will be suprised at the number of kids in the lower weights who have to change weight class due to growing and gaining weight.  It is going to get very interesting. :-D

I keep telling my wife that the check is in the mail.

Yes, Trinity is a great team.  I think the big change for them was McCauley.  He was ranked at 119, but I'm hearing he is much heavier.  But I think it also shows that the battle behind Union is pretty close between Trinity, Campbell, Wayne, Fern Creek, and Woodford.  A shift in a few guys for a few points can move a team up or down a spot.

He is a big, strong athlete with potential.  From what I have seen, his biggest problem is controlling his emotions.  I know that got the best of him (and his dad) at region last year.  He went 3-2 at state last year and I think he matches up better at 215 then against the typically more agile 189s.

Gary Robbins is a very good athlete having wreslted him myself years ago i know his strength even back then My 9th grade year.... I have watched him and his varsity career and i think that he will be able to make alot of noise come state and i believe from watching him over summer that he could very likely take region 6th from bradford of ryle.... i have talked to him and his dad a few times over summer and i believe he is a very determined athlete and i wish him the best of luck.... P.S. He should wrestle up against campbell county lol

I see you have Spencer of JC down to 8th at 119.  He has placed no worse than 7th the last 3 years at state.  He should easily place at least that high.  I know last year he defeated the following during the season or at state.  Fraser of Montgomery, Smith of Trinity, Voth of Dunbar, Sloan of Sheldon Clark, and Evans of Whitley.  He lost 9-8 to Evans of Whitley in the semifinals last year.  I think you are definitely underestimating how good he is.  He also easily beat the state runner-up in West Virginia last year at the Wsaz tournament in Huntington, W. VA.

No, I'm not underestimating him.  Much like last season 119 is shaping up to be a very, very good weight class and this just shows how good.

It's time to get over Coty Lewis being ranked so high, he did nothing last year to get himself ranked as high as he was and he did nothing at state last year to be ranked 2nd right now. Unless he comes in strong and starts beating top competition, which he didn't do last year, he does not deserve to be ranked in the top 5.

How many times have you stepped on the mat in Frankfort under the lights?  Something less than 3.  Enough said.  Coty has the ability; it just comes down to the heart.

I agree that he has the ability, but what did he do last season to be ranked 2nd. Unless he proves himself this year I don't think he deserves to be ranked so high right now.

Man oh Man.

I can hardly believe that people are actually arguing about the rankings.

1.  These are Ranger123's opinion, they may be based on information that he has gathered or seen. But the bottom line these are Rangers rankings.

2.  These are Pre-season rankings. Have you not learned anything by looking at the College football pre-season ranking compared to what they are today?

3.  Being that it is pre-season (no competitive wrestling has occurred yet) He has little to go on this early in the season.  The only thing he has to go on are summer tournaments. Which to me mean even less than nothing.

4.  Most important of all.  These rankings mean absolutely nothing (Sorry Ranger).  They will get you nothing and will defiantly not earn you a spot at the state tourney.

Lets put things into perspective.  We are one week into the practice season.  (Oct 15th being the first practice day).   No one has wrestled anyone yet.  Everyone is on the same level at this time.

Numerous people have bugged ranger to come out with some rankings, and he has done so every month.   Now people want to criticize what he has done.  Don't get on here spouting un measurable facts such as he has worked hard this summer.  He is benching 200 lbs.  Lets wait until the season starts and then we can start updating and changing the rankings.

I for one would like for the ranking forum to be only filled with updates.  Such as weigh class changes and outcomes of matches.

Yeah i mean i dont like it that i am ranked lower than a guy that i have beaten bad twice but... these are just pre season rankings this is nothing to argue about prove it on the mat then when you beat them and you havent move up then you can complain.

The rankings are great, it keeps a fire going at all times. I dont see anything wrong with someone posting that they disagree with Ranger after all he cant always be right. So to the Grappler of Old take a sip of prune juice and loosen your depends these guys can have opinions too. :-P
