Mathound 4 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 University of the Cumberlands (formally Cumberland College) men’s wrestling team went to North Carolina this past weekend for a two-day tournament held on Nov. 12-13 in Pembroke, NC. The men’s wrestling team competed well on the mat as the battled at the 25th annual UNCP Open. Junior Delrico Choates (Ft. Pierce, FL) started off the championship final beating his opponent from Duke University for the gold medal at the 125Ibs weight class. At the 133Ibs junior Michael Brooks (Powder Springs, GA) captured the gold medal after a close match in the finals. At the 285Ibs weight class red shirt senior Ken Prophete (Riviera Beach, FL) received a forfeit in the finals giving him the Heavyweight championship title. At the 141Ibs weight class junior Brad Copper (Morningview, KY) came up short in the final losing in overtime to two-time JCNCAA All-American and NCAA Division II ranked Willie Hilton. Sophomore Dustin Center (Mason, OH) came up short losing in the finals to nationally ranked Chris Seta from Campbellsville University at the 149Ibs weight class. Senior Todd Allen (Hodgenville. KY) also finished second losing to Dwayne Coward of UNCP at the 174Ibs weight class. Finishing fifth at the 149Ibs weight class was Sophomore Nick Newton and senior Nate Jolly ended his weekend at the 157Ibs weight class. Coach Medders was very proud of his team’s performance this past weekend. “I think we did excellent. We dominated the tournament and no other team had as many wrestlers as us in the finals nor placed as many guys as we did.
