Rob Clarkston 10u Duals

Recommended Posts

Coach Rob Clarkston was hired as the assistant wrestling coach at CMHS in
1987/88 school year. Rob came to Bethalto after unbelievable youth, high school,
and College careers. His career included 4 straight Kentucky State Titles in high
school and All-American status at SIUE in College. He started his coaching career
by becoming heavily involved with the Bulls Wrestling Club. Even before the high
school season started, he was at every Bulls practice then once high school
practices started he would come afterwards to the Bulls practice. He put in
countless hours with the younger kids as well as teaching at Trimpe Middle School
where he soon became a favorite with the students. Rob had a knack of
connecting with all the kids, he never met a kid he didn’t like. Along with head
high school coach Steve Bradley, Rob led an era of both CMHS Wrestling and Bulls
Wrestling that was unknown in the area. Steven Bryant became the Bulls first
State Champion in 1991 soon to be followed by numerous Bulls for years to come.
Rob’s patented front headlock series was second to no one’s, and his ability to
teach young people the sport of wrestling was impeccable. However, his
strongest point was his ability to get each and every wrestler and student to give
100% of all they had at being the best they could be. Rob went on to become
dean of students and asst. principle at CMHS however he was still seen in the
wrestling room quite often. Shortly after joining the administration Rob was
diagnosed with a brain tumor which eventually took his life after a long
courageous battle in 2002, leaving a void in the sport of wrestling never to be
filled.

It is a great privilege to be able to honor Rob with this tournament as he was such an integral part of the Bulls Wrestling Club early success!!!
