I’ll update these on Wed. Some great matches today. Wish Trigg, Henderson,  and Hoptown would have been there to see where their guys stand. Rider and Hamilton make big jumps.

Rough region. Union, Christian, and McCracken will take top 4 in most classes, leaving the other 8 teams fighting for one. Some weaker guys on each of those teams will be sent home that would make it to state in other regions taking point scorers away from them all. Could leave points that Johnson Central and Madison Central snatch up.

I read where Indiana fills in "Forfeit" for teams without a kid in that weight class in their post season tournaments. This replaces their "bye" given usually to the top seed and other higher seeds. When teams have quite a few high seeds, these byes put them at an early disadvantage for scoring bonus points compared to teams who have a bunch of first round matches. I think Kentucky should adopt this. The only exception is if a team only has 2 or less kids entered into the tournament, then there isn't a "forfeit" filled into the rest of their roster.

"3. If a school does not have an entry in a weight class, then a forfeit shall be entered for that school in that weight class. EXCEPTION – When a school enters two (2) or less wrestlers in the IHSAA tournament series, the vacant weight classes created by this school’s entry into the tournament shall NOT cause a forfeit in the vacant weight classes."

I'm pretty sure it's ran that way through track. Is there a different button for Kentucky or Indiana?

I could be mistaken, maybe they don't receive "pin" bonus points when they see a forfeit. Not sure.

From my understanding Indiana had to do set up their brackets that way to counteract the old rule of bye's not counting for team points. But a couple years ago it was changed that byes can be used to score points if the wrestler wins their next match. As it currently stands Indiana tournaments I have been to can be kind of ridiculous having wrestlers down on the mat in full gear to "collect a forfeit" rather than getting a bye

So is it this way in Kentucky as well? If a wrestler wins his next match, do they get bonus points for their first round bye?

You collect normal points for any bye as long as you win the next match. For example in most tournaments the first round is worth 2 points for a normal decision, 2.5 for major decision, 3 for technical fall decision, and 4 for a fall. So if you were in the second round and had a bye the first round you would get the 2 point for the bye and you majored the person in the second round you would get a total of 4.5. 2+2.5.

This hurts teams who have a lot of byes who could be getting first round pins. When I read how Indiana had theirs set up with forfeits, would their first round match against "Forfeit" count as fall points?

Welcome to the party. We’ve been saying that in Northern Ky for decades.

As long as the bye’s/forfeits are scored equally it doesn’t matter what point assessment they give them. The key to your bye is winning in the next round so you can at least get the points from the bye/forfeit. If they disperse the bye/forfeits correctly the top seeded wrestlers shouldn’t get the byes/forfeits automatically. The unseeded kids should get the byes.

Lol. I liked the old parties when Union could send 9 #1 seeds to state.  Not gonna happen this time.

When does that ever happen!
