Early Season Upsets

Recommended Posts

#14 at 195 Chandler Miller fall over #4 at 182 Branson Smith

#17 at 132 Marquelle McDaniel MD over #10 at 132 Layne Siebert

#22 at 145 Eric Green Dec over #10 at 138 Brent Hudgins

Unranked Bryson Fields at 152 Fall over #11 at 152 Gavin English and Fall over #19 at 145 Jayden Watson

#21 at 132 Caige Spicer Dec over #8 at 152 Virgil Garcia

Really exciting but nothing too insane other than maynr Branson and Virgil suffering early season defeats. Most of these wrestlers are wrestling out of their weight class and it's early in the season. I don't think there's much to worry about. They will be fine as the season goes on.

106 #4 Aubrey Burke over #3 July Soe at the King of the Bluegrass

Aubrey has now what I want to say is 3 straight wins over July but I know for a fact this makes 2 in a row as Aubrey beat July at regionals last year. Rankings should have been switched imo.

#10 at 138 Brent Hudgins returns and gets two big wins last weekend against #10 Diontae Rone at 145 and an upset of #5 Ronan Wyatt also at 145 after a crushing upset loss to #22 Eric Green the weekend before

Looks like 145 might be a good spot for Hudgins. Already proving he can beat some of the best there.

We will have to see. I'm not sure where he's going permanently, I just know 138 and 145 are highly competitive and stacked. At 138 you have Deck, Yost, Insko, Murrer, and Bates and at 145 you've got Lawrence, Carr, and Wheeler. Both weight classes are extremely top heavy and some pretty good wrestlers in the back end. At the end of the day 138 and/or 145 would be a tough change for ANY wrestler

Giannone #5 over Brooks #3 160.  Gets revenge from Central tourney.  Series split 1-1

Yost #3 over Insko #2 138.  Yost trying to avenge two off-season losses.

I didn’t see the brooks win over giannone but i did see the rematch.   It was impressive.  Everyone at 160 should be on alert.  This kid is good.

Insko / Yost was a great match.  Looked like Yost got dinged up a bit.   Hopefully he’s ok.
