Wrestledad 69 Report post Posted July 29, 2017 Freestyle is a necessity for our female wrestlers. It is the style they will wrestle in college. This is the first year that our coaches taught it, and they did an excellent job. It was a learning experience for them as well but we had a couple that went to Campbell tourney. The wrestlers were nervous about wrestling in a new style but they did well. Kentucky also sent 5 females to Fargo. They all did an excellent job representing their state and were very competitive on a national level. Hopes are to eventually have a full roster for nationals. Very proud of all our kids that went and helped on building a foundation for the state.

They are all a MMA type of sport but different disciplines. So the analogy of baseball and softball makes perfect sense to me. Teach folkstyle during folkstyle and freestyle during freestyle practice. Our future in Kentucky is with our Youth. We should think of Freestyle/Greco tournament with clinic during there season. @controlwa 13 Report post Posted August 3, 2017 Just to refresh this topic. We have to continue to push more FS/GR within our state! There should be no excuse for not wrestling the international styles of wrestling. It's like growing up playing a sport and not wanting to go pro in that sport. Suggestions, questions, or anything for that matter should be the next topic on this. BTW world team trials will be coming up soon!!!!!!!!
matreturn 9 Report post Posted August 7, 2017 The truth is the younger programs, programs with new coaches don't seem to be stressing the importance of continuing wrestling education after the high school season. What is being stressed is conditioning and strength training and that's it. No mention of any wrestling opportunity past the KWOA Spring Classic. What was said about having coaches that are constantly on their kids with that kind of support to wrestle freestyle and Greco in the offseason, that goes a long way.
