    Region 1 Rankings 12/20

Decided to give another update before getting on a plane tomorrow and being away from my computer for awhile. Still a lot of guesswork involved in predicting where some weights will look wrestler wise but some weight classes seem to be solidifying and in cases like 160 are starting to look extremely tough. If I have the team I will try to post Team Rankings in the next couple days, otherwise I will just have someone do the math for me, it's not that hard just time consuming 106 1. Zeke Escelera, Union County (1) 2. Austin Gibson, Christian County (UR) 3. Keaton Elliot, Calloway County (2) 4. Dylan Walls, Caldwell County (3) 5. Nathanial Jenkins, McCracken County (6) 6. Caige Clark, Ohio County (4) With a KOB title and some wins over state level wrestlers Austin Gibson makes his rankings debut as a third name to throw in the hate against Elliot and Walls. I currently see this as a tight race between the three I mentioned as they compete for that second spot behind Escelera. Jenkins can slip in the top 4 on a good day. 113 1. Austin Grant-Hall, Christian County (1) 2. Gabe Adams, Union County (2) 3. Ethan Furtrell, Trigg County (UR) 4. Eli Peyton, McCracken County (3) 5. Colin Walls, Caldwell County (4) 6. Zander Bunch, Ohio County (6) Few changes for this week outside of swapping Dubois and putting in Furtrell but the 4-6 spot appears to be closely contested. Also keep an eye on Paducah's Quinn Atnip. 120 1. Sam Bacon, Union County (UR) 2. Jakerion Merritt, Christian County (3@126) 3. Devonta Turner, Trigg County (3) 4. Ray Hamilton, Paducah Tilghman (4) 5. Ethan Wells, UHA (5) 6. Jack Probus, Ohio County (6) Swapped in Bacon and Merritt but I don't see a reason to change their spot for now. Bacon has an outside shot at the state title, I was very impressed. 126 1. Dylan Martin, McCracken County (1) 2. Payne Carr, Union County (2) 3. Nick Dickerson, Calloway County (2@132) 4. Shane Grey, Ohio County (5) 5. Isaac Aguier, Trigg County (4) 6. The top three at this weight are really tough. Four and Five are right next to each other, it's a toss up really. With the sixth spot I decided to just leave it blank because I couldn't decide between the remainder. 132 1. Saul Ervin, Union County (1) 2. Cameron Dearmond, Hoptown (2@138) 3. Ishmael Griffie, Christian County (3) 4. Jordan Snyder, Trigg County (UR) 5. David Conner, McCracken County (4) 6. Damien Crisp, Fort Campbell (5) Dickerson moves down to 126, Dearmond comes down from 138 and appears pretty solid in the #2 spot for now 138 1. Bryce Sheffer, Union County (1) 2. Louie Regaldo, Fort Campbell (2@145) 3. Hunter Vlach, McCracken County (3) 4. Kaleb O'Campo, Caldwell County (5@145) 5. Timmie Dunham, Christian County (UR) 6. Still couldn't find someone to finish out 138. It may be a little early but I will put Louie down here before he's actually made the drop. He is a potential state finals match up against Sheffer at this weight. Vlach hasn't had results in awhile so he can potentially be removed next rankings. 145 1. Chance Oxford, Union County (1) 2. Cameron Coleman, Christian County (UR) 3. Rey Vela, Fort Campbell (4@138) 4. Justin Crabtree, Trigg County (2@152) 5. Kestin McClain, McCracken County (3) 6. Jacob Kramer, Calloway County (4@152) Behind Oxford is a really solid battle between 4-5 kids that should be good. McClain has a similar situation as Vlach 152 1. Micah Ervin, Union County (1) 2. Colin Stevens, Trigg County (4@160) 3. Klemmer Nicodemus, Ohio County (5) 4. Seth Slayton, Caldwell County (3) 5. Bailey Conley, Fort Campbell (6) 6. Kevonni Young, Hoptown (UR) Stevens and Nicodemus are two young and solid coaches' kids I am excited to watch the next few year but Ervin is the top here, and also funnily a young tough coach's kid 160 1. Dylan Gray, Caldwell County (1) 2. Jack Hanes, Calloway County (2) 3. Corbin Ryder, Fort Campbell (3) 4. Antonio Abren, Christian County (5) 5. Landon Moore, Union County (UR) 6. Trevor Tilley, McCracken County (6) We have a situation at 160 where 3, possibly even 4 people have shots at the podium as veteran Gray, Hanes, and Ryder have probably the closest and toughest 1-2-3 in most parts of the state let alone the region. 170 1. Diion Leavell, Christian County (1) 2. Matthias Ervin, Union County (2) 3. Ethan Tomerlin, Fort Campbell (4) 4. Kolby Morris, Hoptown (3) 5. John Predes, Caldwell County (5) 6. Connor Hideg, McCracken County (6) Tomerling moves up with a win over Morris. I half expect Leavell and the other Christian County boys to drop come Christmas but we will see, until then he is #1 here. Hideg makes the 3rd in a row for McCracken 182 1. Avery Buckman, Union County (1) 2. Niko Bussell, Christian County (2) 3. Katayvon Anthony, Hoptown (3) 4. Colton Stoner, Trigg County (4) 5. Logan Deasal, McCracken County (5) 6. Dylan Bell, Calloway County (6) No real results to report that I've seen. 1-2-3 remains extremely solid. 195 1. Ross Hicks, Union County (1) 2. Kjauwan Major, Christian County (2) 3. David Woods, Calloway County (2@220) 4. Raequan Lester, Paducah Tilghman (3) 5. Nautica Bonds, McCracken County (4) 6. Nick Owens, Hoptown (UR) I'll keep Hicks at 195 but he has been wrestling at 220. Major and Woods are two major threats to unseat him in the region however. Speaking of Major I have noted that he hasn't wrestled since a DQ at KOB with Raven Knight in his place instead, eyes on that. Bonds like the other McCracken kids has a foot out the rankings door at the moment. 220 1. Chance Orr, Paducah Tilghman (1) 2. Colby Culver, Calloway County (2@285) 3. Deion Lane, Hoptown (4) 4. Michael Elkins, Christian County (5@285) 5. Sean Robles, Fort Campbell (6) 6. Jordan Ware, McCracken County (UR) This weight is a bit of a mess at the moment because I am giving Orr one more week even though the word that he has quit seems reliable. Personally if I was talking to Orr I would advise him very strongly against such a decision but at the end of the day we can never make decisions for someone. Next week (maybe) expect a Culver #1 and a Fitzgerald #2. As for the rest of the weight I will try to figure it out 285 1. David Nikolao, Fort Campbell (1) 2. Payton Snyder, Union County (3) 3. Gavynn Davis, McCracken County (4) 4. Andrew Pottle, Ohio County (6) 5. Seth Riley, Christian County (UR) 6. Jay Emerson, Calloway County (UR) Heavyweight is very empty right now, especially since Nikolao has yet to return to the mat. Technically Pottle is apparently competing at 220 but with heavyweight so open who knows Team Rankings 1. Union County (52.5) Another year, another virtually untouchable Union team. This may be one of the more complete teams Union has had since around 2013 or so. The definite state favorite right now led by long time studs in Saul Ervin and Bryce Sheffer amongst several other elite level wrestlers such as Chance Oxford, Avery Buckman, and newcomer Sam Bacon. The younger batch led by Zeke/Charles/Gavin Escelera and Micah Ervin shore up most remaining roster spots 2. Christian County (30) I would say Christian County is one, maybe two, years away from contesting for the region title and a top 5 state finish. The young talent Christian County has is envied throughout the state with several young men such as Austin Grant-Hall and Niko Bussell who may finally break the Christian County state title drought sooner rather than later. 3. Fort Campbell (15.5) I was honestly surprised the math placed Fort Campbell this highly but Fort Campbell does bring some truly elite wrestlers to the table this year. Speaking of title droughts Fort Campbell is seeking their first state champion since 1990, David Nikolao could potentially be the end of this title drought as one of the highest skilled heavy's I have personally seen come out of Kentucky. Besides Nikolao the likes of Louie Regaldo and Corbin Ryder should frighten any potential matchup in the state 4. McCracken County (14) A lot of expectations got placed on McCracken this year by virtue of an elite coaching staff being brought in to an area rich with the resources through which one can build an elite program. If things fall into place then McCracken can be a dark horse threat for a trophy run at the regional tournament, if not this year then the following year. Whatever happens all eyes should be on McCracken for the near future. 5. Calloway County (13.5) While sitting at 5th Calloway County is still well within striking distance of the coveted second place spot behind Union. Behind their state title threat in Colby Culver and several tough to elite wrestlers surrounding him such as Nick Dickerson, on a good day Calloway is a force to be reckoned with and on a bad day a force to be wary of. Behind them schools such as Trigg, Caldwell, and Hoptown are building up right behind them with talent and lots of potential. 6. Trigg County (10.5) 7. Caldwell County (9) 8. Hoptown (8.5) 9. Paducah Tilghman (7) 10. Ohio County (5.5) 11. UHA (0.5) 12. Mayfield (0)

    Region 1 Rankings 12/9

Ok so you guys had to wait long enough here's the latest batch. One of the toughest things this part of the year is balancing where a guy has been wrestling vs where I eventually expect them to wrestle. KoB this weekend should give us a slightly better idea of where people plan on going in regards to weight classes. Those of us who coach know that we are constantly bouncing kids around at duals. There are some tough kids who are currently in the wrong weight class and have a position that does not reflect their eventual finish, these will of course be rectified as the year goes on. Also if I missed a result, especially from last year, be sure to call me out on it so I can fix the rankings. 106 1. Zeke Escelera, Union County 2. Keaton Elliot, Calloway County 3. Dylan Walls, Caldwell County 4. Caige Clark, Ohio County 5. Gage Fowler, Christian County 6. Nathanial Jenkins, McCracken County As of this week outside of Escelera, who can wrestle just about anyone in the country, the cupboard at 106 seems a little bare. That said Elliot is a tough wrestler and Walls has huge upside but the shadow of Daniel Knight hangs over everyone. Once he is down we have a matchup similar to the sort of region/state battles we saw with Austin and Blackwell where we watch the two best in the state match up several times. 113 1. Austin Grant-Hall, Christian County 2. Gabe Adams, Union County 3. Eli Peyton, McCracken County 4. Colin Walls, Caldwell County 5. Max Dubois, Hoptown 6. Zander Bunch, Ohio County There is a lot of young talent at this weight right now with potential of more talent dropping in. Grant-Hall is of course a middle schooler I've made clear I am extremely impressed with but Adams is more than a worthy threat. 3rd and down is currently a battle between 5 kids with Trigg's Futrell the odd man out as of this batch of rankings. Also of note is just a week or so ago I was talking to my girlfriend's family in Ohio County about wrestlers we all knew such as Chase Boone, Ryan Bunch, Jordan Woolen, etc. I mentioned how there was still one more Bunch to go, the tiny one that used to one around the gym in a singlet. 120 1. Trevor Poague, Union County 2. Daniel Knight, Christian County 3. Devonta Turner, Trigg County 4. Ray Hamilton, Paducah Tilghman 5. Ethan Wells, UHA 6. Jack Probus, Ohio County This is our first very tough weight class with good kids outside of the top four. I do think the weights stay this way for long. Knight I'd imagine is on the way down to 106 and Wells on the way down to 113. I gave Poague a slight edge but really it's arguably a five way battle with this particular group. 126 1. Dylan Martin, McCracken County 2. Payne Carr, Union County 3. Jakerion Merrit, Christian County 4. Isaac Aguier, Trigg County 5. Shane Grey, Ohio County 6. Riley Staton, UHA I'm interested in the potential of this group. Dylan Martin was tough before but his growth under McCracken's new coaching staff is definitely something that deserves a close watch as McCracken looks to be the dark horse pick this year in the region. Payne has had another year to try and mature his body, the technical skill and talent is unquestionably there. I feel unsure with 3-5 but this is where I've placed them as of right now 132 1. Saul Ervin, Union County 2. Nick Dickerson, Calloway County 3. Ishmael Griffie, Christian County 4. David Conner, McCracken County 5. Damien Crisp, Fort Campbell 6. Brennan Rouse, Paducah Tilghman This is an interesting weight in the sense that while Saul is easily the top guy in the region second place is currently a very close battle between Dickerson, Griffie, and Conner. Crisp and Rouse round out until people move into the weight class. 138 1. Bryce Sheffer, Union County 2. Cameron Dearmond, Hoptown 3. Hunter Vlach, McCracken County 4. Rey Vela, Fort Campbell 5. Joe Fernandez, Christian County 6. It was going to happen eventually but hit my first weight I couldn't fill out. I'm sure we will have far more than six here eventually but until then this is what I've got. Sheffer is far and away the leader here but Dearmond and Vlach can take matches at state 145 1. Chance Oxford, Union County 2. Louie Regaldo, Fort Campbell 3. Kestin McClain, McCracken County 4. Zlato Skuljan, Hoptown 5. Kaleb O'Campo, Caldwell County 6. Gavin English, Ohio County This is a weight I expect people to drop away from but right now two high podium threats in Oxford and Regaldo lead the weight with a good chance Regaldo may cut to 138. McClain leads a solid remainder who are eying 2+ wins at state. 152 1. Micah Ervin, Union County 2. Justin Crabtree, Trigg County 3. Seth Slayton, Caldwell County 4. Jacob Kramer, Calloway County 5. Klemmer Nicodemus, Ohio County 6. Bailey Conley, Fort Campbell Ervin can hang with just about anyone in the state and has some high expectations going in his freshman year. Outside of that it's a virtual free for all with seconds with nobody currently at this weight I would put more than a finger length's edge ahead of the man behind him. 160 1. Dylan Gray, Caldwell County 2. Jack Hanes, Calloway County 3. Corbin Ryder, Fort Campbell 4. Colin Stevens, Trigg County 5. Antonio Abren, Christian County 6. Trevor Tilley, McCracken County With how insanely tough this weight class I fully expect 2-3 of the guys that can drop will drop especially considering the relative sparseness of 152. Gray is an outside state title threat at 152 or 160, Hanes and Ryder can both finish on the podium, and Stevens has an outside shot at the podium depending on match ups. Abren and Tilley are 2+ state win guys on a good day but are just trapped behind so many other tough wrestlers currently sitting at 160. 170 1. Diion Leavell, Christian County 2. Matthias Ervin, Union County 3. Kolby Morris, Hoptown 4. Ethan Tomerlin, Fort Campbell 5. John Predes, Caldwell County 6. Connor Hideg, McCracken County The top four here I feel ok with albeit I expect a couple of these guys are dropping to another weight class. Outside of the top four I feel kind of stumped, well reasoned suggestions are welcome. Leavell and Ervin could have some decent fights if they both are at this weight. Tomerlin is an interesting wrestler to watch but is giving up a lot of weight at 170. 182 1. Avery Buckman, Union 2. Niko Bussell, Christian County 3. Katayvon Anthony, Hoptown 4. Colton Stoner, Trigg County 5. Logan Deasal, McCracken County 6. Dylan Bell, Calloway County If this weight stays looking like this then we have a very interesting fight between a noted veteran in Buckman and a fast rising young star in Bussell. Outside of those two Anthony, Stoner, and Deasal could finish in any order and Bell is not far behind. 195 1. Ross Hicks, Union County 2. Kjauwan Major, Christian County 3. Raequan Lester, Paducah Tilghman 4. Nautica Bonds, McCracken County 5. Isac Predes, Caldwell County 6. Dylan Lynn, Ohio County Hicks and Major are the big two at this weight and both want podium finishes. 195 being what it is you could argue they could shoot for a state title. Lester and Bonds are currently pretty equal in that 3rd place spot but we will see if anyone drops in or if one of the two pulls ahead. 220 1. Chance Orr, Paducah Tilghman 2. David Woods, Calloway County 3. Markus Green, Christian County 4. Deion Lane, Hoptown 5. John Fuqua, Union County 6. Sean Robles, Fort Campbell Until Culver is here Orr is basically untouched which is what you would expect from the state title favorite. The remaining bunch has some ability but isn't quite to Orr's (or Culver's) level. 285 1. David Nikolao, Fort Campbell 2. Colby Culver, Calloway County 3. Payton Snyder, Union County 4. Gavynn Douglas, McCracken County 5. Michael Elkins, Christian County 6. Andrew Pottle, Ohio County Heavyweight will need some fat boys rolling around a bit and pinning each other before we can see it's clear. Culver's stay at heavyweight is 99% likely to be a temporary stay as he is eyeing a state title at 220 competing against Orr. Nikolao has the talent, the skill, and the build the only question mark on him is health. But a 100% Nikolao, or even a 90% Nikolao is my pick for the state title at heavyweight. Region 1 Pre-season Rankings

No planning needed for tomorrow so I was able to get these done. They should provide a bit of a snapshot of what we're looking at with actual practices starting in only a little over three weeks. As always a lot of weights will be wrong, little information is known regarding who will end up where, kids who aren't even wrestling will be on here, really good kids who have been hiding in the shadows won't be on here, and sometimes I even just completely miss a kid. A couple schools have yet to send me any info, you know who you are, so hopefully any corrections coming from post-ranking info will be done by Monday. 106 1. Zeke Escalera, Union County 2. Daniel Knight, Christian County 3. Keegan Slone, Trigg County 4. Keaton Elliot, Calloway County 5. Jack Probus, Ohio County 6. Christian Maines, Fort Campbell You know considering I helped coach him with Team Kentucky you'd think I would know what name he goes by these days, is it Zeke? Gavin? Charles? By any means Escalera is a superstar in the making and the heavy favorite at 106. A weight he may actually weigh this year. Behind him is a pack led by veteran Daniel Knight who is sitting at 2nd in the state himself. The weight looks to mainly be a battle between those two. 113 1. Austin Grant-Hall, Christian County 2. Trevor Poague, Union County 3. Billy Eggers, Fort Campbell 4. Ethan Furtrell, Trigg County 5. Max Dubois, Hoptown 6. Christian Grant, Ohio County Like Escalera, Grant-Hall is another young budding superstar who turned heads in their first year of eligibility. An outside shot at a state title leaves Grant-Hall the heavy favorite in the region. However, Poague is a very tough wrestler and you should never short someone coming out of the Union room. Eggers has been someone who has been right at the cusp of being a successful wrestler, this may be the year he turns the corner. 120 1. Cameron Dearmond, Hoptown 2. Ethan Wells, UHA 3. Isaac Aguier, Trigg County 4. Jakerion Merrit, Christian County 5. Billy Pride, Union County 6. Andrew Syester, Fort Campbell On paper this weight is interesting off the bat as it has no clear cut favorite. Dearmond gets the nod here based off of his higher finish at last year's regional tournament. But Wells, Aguier, Merrit, and Pride all have good shots at the region title. 126 1. Saul Ervin, Union County 2. Nick Dickerson, Calloway County 3. Ray Hamilton, Paducah Tilghman 4. Seth Slayton, Caldwell County 5. Ishmael Griffie, Christian County 6. Jordan Snyder, Trigg County Saul should be a scary sight to see coming off of a 2nd place finish. A little bit of fire in an already premier level talent should give most wrestlers in the country pause let alone the state of Kentucky. Ervin, Dickerson, and Hamilton all have big question marks over where their final weight will be. Saul may move up, Dickerson and Hamilton may move down. 132 1. Rylan Ervin, Union County 2. Kaleb O’Campo, Caldwell County 3. Hudson Zwyg, Trigg County 4. Shane Grey, Ohio County 5. Jacob Vickery, McCracken County 6. Neal Aldridge, Christian County As of right now this weight seems to be fairly sparse and the few solid picks I have here are question marks for weight. Hopefully this weight gets cleared up with some early information. 138 1. Bryce Sheffer, Union County 2. Louie Regaldo, Fort Campbell 3. Devontae Turner, Trigg County 4. Zlato Skuljan, Hoptown 5. Hunter Vlach, McCracken County 6. Joe Fernandez, Christian County Sheffer is looking to crown off his career with another state title, Regaldo is seeking to get back on the podium after a two year absence. Both will be dangerous opponents for anyone they come across as the two veterans of the region seek the proper finish to their respective careers. Turner leads the rest of a contingent of tough wrestlers but as always weight question marks abound. 145 1. Micah Ervin, Union County 2. Colin Stevens, Trigg County 3. Alex Curl, Fort Campbell 4. Jacob Bellah, Calloway County 5. Tyler Thomas, Hoptown 6. Klemmer Nicodemus, Ohio County In a running theme for the region this weight appears to hold some of the region's top upcoming talent in Ervin, Stevens, and Curl assuming all three end up at this weight. As always weight is a question mark but no matter where they are these three are future top contenders in the middle weights of the region. Bellah is a talented veteran who holds a decent shot at the state tournament this season. 152 1. Chance Oxford, Union County 2. Ethan Tomerlin, Fort Campbell 3. Dylan Martin, McCracken County 4. Antonio Abren, Christian County 5. Jacob Kramer, Calloway County 6. London Warren, Paducah Tilghman After years of having it allude him, Chance Oxford goes for the state podium one last time. If Bindner hadn't been wrestling like a man possessed at the state tournament than Oxford would already have that state medal. Tomerlin is a very talented and very young wrestler who seeks to bounce back from a somewhat disappointing finish to his first high school season. Martin potentially leads a couple of tough wrestlers in Abren and Kramer 160 1. Diion Leavell, Christian County 2. Corbin Ryder, Fort Campbell 3. Jack Haynes, Calloway County 4. Kestin McClain, McCracken County 5. Caleb Riley, Caldwell County 6. Malik Cunningham, Trigg County A huge question mark here is Ryder's health. A healthy Ryder could potentially upend Leavell and take the region. All of the top three guys here are podium threats just with minor question marks over them such as health and weight. The remainder fighting for 4th should not be ignored by any means. 170 1. Dylan Grey, Caldwell County 2. Avery Buckman, Union County 3. Niko Bussell, Christian County 4. Johnathon Bowling, McCracken County 5. Bryan Grant, Ohio County 6. Bailey Conley, Fort Campbell The top three here are among the Region's best. Proven veterans in Grey and Buckman alongside upcoming star wrestler Niko Bussell. Outside of the top three are tough wrestlers but currently I am unsure if they pack statewide punch. 182 1. David Woods, Calloway County 2. Matthias Ervin, Union County 3. Katayvon Anthony, Hoptown 4. Colton Stoner, Trigg County 5. Daniel Moll, Caldwell County 6. Evan Martin, McCracken County Woods and Ervin set up a potentially very interesting battle for the top of the 182 spot. Anthony is more than good enough to play spoiler to either of the two's region finals hopes. Stoner, Moll, and Martin are all three very dangerous wrestlers who could slip into the fourth spot and be a tough matchup. 195 1. Jackson Fitzgerald, Paducah Tilghman 2. Kjawuan Majors, Christian County 3. Josh Efinger, Calloway County 4. Payton Ervin, Union County 5. Mark Diaz, Trigg County 6. Joey Mickley, Fort Campbell As is the nature of this weight there are a lot of questions about 195. Right now Fitzgerald, Majors, and Efinger are a solid top three but there is a chance someone else may slide into the weight class and shake up the qualifying spots. If the current meat grinder at 220 is any indicator expect those who can to be keeping their eyes at other weights if possible. 220 1. Chance Orr, Paducah Tilghman 2. Colby Culver, Calloway County 3. Ross Hicks, Union County 4. Tige Littlefield, Caldwell County 5. Logan Deasal, McCracken County 6. Jake Miller, Hoptown From top to bottom this may be the toughest weight in the region. Orr and Culver are state final threats and both hold respectable shots at upsetting Brandon Reed. Hicks is also eyeing a high podium finish, either here or perhaps at a lower weight. Littlefield has been competing for a long time and this is a year even he could find himself on the podium. Logan is one of the better young upper weights in the state and played spoiler at regionals last year, with that first year under his belt and moving into high school he definitely has the talent to turn heads. Miller is a tough wrestler currently stuck at a tough weight. 285 1. David Nikolao, Fort Campbell 2. Gavynn Davis, McCracken County 3. Payton Snyder, Union County 4. Deion Lane, Hoptown 5. Zach Langhi, Christian County 6. Xavier Chappell, Paducah Tilghman A big key here is how Nikolao has recovered from his injury. If he is even close to 100% then he is my pick to win the state title. Size, speed, strength, athleticism... heavyweights with a toolset like Nikolao's are rare. Davis and Snyder can take a few matches at state themselves depending on how they have developed. Lane sits comfortably in that fourth spot as the remaining heavyweight field is still a bit hazy. Team 1. Union County (44.5) Union just has too much young and too much proven talent this year, hence they are eyeing another state title. Someone has to remind me because I can't remember off the top of my head the last time Union didn't win the Region One title, I want to guess 2005. 2. Christian County (22) Out of all the teams over the years that have battled for second behind Union over the past few years none have been more consistent than Christian County. Bolstered by some of the best young talent I'd say the Colonels have ever seen Christian County should feel very confident going into this season with nowhere to go but up. 3. Fort Campbell (20) A calamitous collection of injuries coupled with an already very young team left Fort Campbell with perhaps the most disappointing finish at the regional tournament for a long time. A healthy Fort Campbell is a formidable state power and hopefully now their youth will start to morph into an experienced group of dangerous veteran wrestlers. 4. Calloway County (17.5) While not quite packing as much firepower as they have during their dark horse runs the past two seasons Calloway still has enough tough wrestlers, led by state title threat Colby Culver, to be a serious threat for another run at second in the region. 5. Trigg County (14.5) Trigg is coming off one of their best seasons since the program's revival. The last face of those first teams has moved on and Trigg now functions purely off of the identity they have built for themselves. The pieces are definitely there for a dark horse tournament run from an already dangerous duals team. 6. Paducah Tilghman (13) I've always said that Paducah is a full team away from being a regional powerhouse. Yet again Paducah threatens with a state title threat in Chance Orr who is the sort of piece coaches dream of building a team around. Some dedicated recruiting and a full lineup Paducah Tilghman is a scary thought. 7(t). Caldwell County (10.5) This group of Caldwell wrestlers have been around for a longtime, been competing since 7th graders mostly. A couple individual pieces will seek to elevate the rest of the team to a top 5 regional finish. 7(t). Hoptown (10.5) The deadly dark horse from only a couple years ago. Hoptown may be in a bit of a rebuilding period but holds a handful of wrestlers right on the cusp of being powers in the region. 9. McCracken County (9) McCracken appears to be finally turning the corner and hitting its stride as a newer program. Several young and talented upperweights bolster a team that is starting to generate respect in the area. 10(t). Ohio County (3) Not too long ago Ohio County was one of the most feared teams in the region. The potential is still there, it just needs to be developed. 10(t). UHA (3) Sort of a mixture between Ohio County and Paducah. UHA has never lacked the talent, but ever since their last large team in 2009, they've lacked the numbers. 12. Todd County Central (0) A season under their belt and hopefully Todd County Central will start to see some dividends pay off

You had to wait a couple extra days, but that was because I was waiting for CCI. So with that tournament out of the way I can work on trying to decipher how the results effect the rankings. Be prepared to shout your rage over some of the decisions I had to make. I was mostly working off of CCI so if a dual results slipped past me let me know. Also sidenote, I get to go see the Southern Scuffle starting tomorrow which is always a great tournament 106 1. Kaleb Sapp, Ohio County (1) 2. Kaleb Hammons, Caldwell County (2) 3. Ray Hamilton, Paducah Tilghman (113) 4. Billy Pride, Union County (3) 5. James McDow, Hopkinsville (4) 6. Ishmael Griffie, Christian County (UR) Dropped Out- Aguier, Trigg County; Dickerson, Calloway Hamilton cuts down and has a decent showing at CCI. Griffie picks up a win over McDow but McDow gets revenge in the the rematch that same day. Also of note I have a theory that Union will be dropping weights soon so look out 113 1. Saul Ervin, Union County (1) 2. Luis Regaldo, Fort Campbell (2) 3. Daniel Knight, Christian County (4) 4. Dakota Himes, Ohio County (3) 5. Austin Zeppes, Calloway County (5) 6. Dale Robertson, Hopkinsville (UR) Dropping Out- None Knight beat the wrestler who beat Himes so I will bump him up for now. Regaldo had an impressive tournament, but nothing I didn't expect from him. 120 1. Micah Ervin, Union County (3) 2. Alex Curl, Fort Campbell (5) 3. Devontae Turner, Trigg County (1) 4. Froilan Agulto, Christian County (2) 5. Cameron Dearmond, Hoptown (4) 6. Jacob Bellah, Calloway County (126) Dropping Out- None A lot of changes at this weight, Curl utterly floored me with his performance at CCI and if he had won his final's match I might've put him at first. Turner didn't lost to Curl but since the two have no matches together I have to go off common opponents so Curl's minor decision > Turner's major decision. Since I don't feel comfortable moving Curl all the way to first after just one tournament I kept him behind Micah Ervin. 126 1. Bryce Sheffer, Union County (1) 2. Jeremiah Kline, Trigg County (2) 3. Daniel Dyess, UHA (3) 4. Camerin Cole, Christian County (4) 5. Zach McCoy, Ohio County (5) 6. John Eggers, Fort Campbell (UR) Dropping out- None Dyess reaffirmed his lead over Cole while Kline dominated the field. Moving Bellah down to 120 gave me a bit of a hole at 6th and I settled on Eggers, I'd be willing to listen to alternatives. 132 1. Chance Collins, UHA (1) 2. Scott Ruttman, Calloway County (2) 3. Rylan Ervin, Union County (3) 4. Colin Stevens, Trigg County (UR) 5. Kestin McClain, McCracken County (5) 6. Gideon Ellison, Fort Campbell (UR) Dropping Out- none Collins looked good, Ruttman might be cutting down to 126. 138 1. BJ Miller, Ohio County (1) 2. Derek Miller, Paducah Tilghman (2) 3. Chance Oxford, Union County (3) 4. Dalton Putty, UHA (5) 5. Diion Leavell, Christian County (4) 6. Jack Haynes, Calloway County (6) Dropped Out- Miller gets a second win over Miller... BJ over Derek. Putty picks up a win over Leavell who struggled a bit at CCI. 145 1. Kobe Perry, Christian County (1) 2. Corbin Ryder, Fort Campbell (2) 3. Tim Pike, Union County (3) 4. Logan Thomas, Calloway County (4) 5. Malik Cunningham, Trigg County (152) 6. Braden Sperry, Caldwell County (5) Dropping Out- none Perry secures his lead over Ryder with a pin and Cunningham drops from 152. 152 1. Jackson Oxford, Union County (1) 2. Dylan Gray, Caldwell County (2) 3. Nicholas Walls, Calloway County (3) 4. Ivan Lawson, Hoptown (4) 5. Josh McCoy, Ohio County (6) 6. Christian Barefield, UHA (UR) Dropping Out- none None of the big name guys were at CCI outside of Lawson so no real changes this week. 160 1. Nate Williams, Hoptown (1) 2. Kenneth Sells, Christian County (2) 3. Mario Perez, Calloway County (3) 4. Will Crabtree, UHA (170) 5. Alex Hideg, McCracken County (4) 6. Jaishon Faishon, Trigg County (170) Dropping Out- Hedrick, Union; Riley, Caldwell Sells wrestled Williams tough but was unable to pick up the upset. Crabtree cuts down to 160 and picks up a win over Hideg. Perez might be dropping to 152 170 1. Avery Buckman, Union County (2) 2. Gino Haywood, Fort Campbell (1) 3. Isaiah Lawson, Hoptown (3) 4. Keyven Sells, Christian County (4) 5. David Woods, Calloway County (UR) 6. Seth Estes, McCracken County (UR) Dropping Out- None Here is where I had to make a tough call. I don't think Lawson has the credentials warranting moving up to 1 or 2 while Haywood's loss means he shouldn't be #1 so I did a famous ranker's cop out of just dropping the #1 guy. 182 1. Xavier Pate, Christian County (1) 2. Kane Morris, Union County (2) 3. Conner Keenan, Fort Campbell (3) 4. Tige Littlefield. Caldwell County (4) 5. Gage Parker, Ohio County (5) 6. Katayvon Anthony, Hoptown (UR) Dropping Out- Burkeen, Calloway Keenan looked good but didn't do enough to hop over Morris, other then that everyone seems to be performing where I would expect. 195 1. Cole Sherman, Union County (1) 2. Phil Bradley, UHA (4) 3. Eugene Butler, Hoptown (2) 4. Cody Jackson, Calloway County (3) 5. Dylan Marlow, Ohio County (UR) 6. Anthony Adkinson, Fort Campbell (5) Dropping Out- Bohn, Trigg Bradley had a very good CCI where Butler didn't so I bump Bradley all the way up to second. Marlow appears at this weight and picks up a win over Adkinson. 220 1. Conner Sherman, Union County (1) 2. Zach Farris, Ohio County (2) 3. Colby Culver, Calloway County (3) 4. Chance Orr, Paducah Tilghman (4) 5. Ben McGregor, Caldwell County (5) 6. Michael Bruce, Hopkinsville (UR) Dropping Out- Gross, McCracken Nothing really to report, only Orr and Farris were at CCI 285 1. Raynel Brown, Union County (1) 2. Luke Shaffer, Ohio County (2) 3. Andrew Lee, McCracken County (3) 4. David Nikolao, Fort Campbell (4) 5. Wyatt Thomas, Hopkinsville (UR) 6. Maurice Catlett, Trigg County (5) Dropping Out- Ray, Christian Nikolao wrestles a close one against Shaffer but couldn't pick up the win, the top four are all close. Lee and Catlett didn't wrestle at CCI which is troubling. Thomas picks up a win over Ray Team 1. Union County (50) 1 million dollars that Union will be here next week as well 2(t). Christian County (19) Christian and Ohio slip into a tie but I slightly favor Christian County, both teams have a lot of kids performing as expected but not a lot of shocking jumps this week 2.(t). Ohio County (19) See Christian County 4. Fort Campbell (16.5) Curl's performance is huge, if a couple other wrestlers perform like that then Fort Campbell could move back up to 2nd. 5(t). Calloway County (13) Calloway and Hoptown are tied right now, Calloway is favored because if the possible weight cuts I've noticed do occur then I think they slip just ahead of Hoptown. Hoptown had a good CCI, bigger Lawson being one of the main forces behind that. UHA has gotten all of their small batch of wrestlers into the rankings, UHA has always been the sort of program that if they actually got kids in the room they would be a very tough program. Trigg and Caldwell have some very tough kids but the rest of the program needs to step up. Paducah's issue is similar to UHA's, and McCracken just needs some more development 5(t). Hoptown (13) 7. UHA (12.5) 8. Trigg County (8.5) 9. Caldwell County (8) 10. Paducah Tilghman (6) 11. McCracken County (3.5)

    Region 1 Rankings Week 3 (12/22)

Flying against my will to a family gathering in New Mexico, working off of one hour of sleep at the moment and sick because the only decent gum I could find was the sickenly sweet Juicy Fruit. A lot of results to get to though so I will do my best to maintain consciousness through this. 106 1. Kaleb Sapp, Ohio County (1) 2. Kaleb Hammons, Caldwell County (2) 3. Billy Pride, Union County (3) 4. James McDow, Hopkinsville (4) 5. Isaac Aguier, Trigg County (5) 6. Nick Dickerson, Calloway County (6) Dropped Out- None I know Agulto is coming back but until then he remains out of the rankings. He would be second in the rankings. 113 1. Saul Ervin, Union County (1) 2. Luis Regaldo, Fort Campbell (2) 3. Dakota Himes, Ohio County (3) 4. Daniel Knight, Christian County (4) 5. Austin Zeppes, Calloway County (5) 6. Ray Hamilton, Paducah Tilghman (6) Dropping Out- None Nothing new to report to my knowledge. Regaldo picked up a pretty solid win over a highly ranked guy in Tennessee over the weekend. 120 1. Devontae Turner, Trigg County (1) 2. Froilan Agulto, Christian County (2) 3. Micah Ervin, Union County (UR) 4. Cameron Dearmond, Hoptown (3) 5. Alex Curl, Fort Campbell (UR) 6. Ben Hannamond, Calloway County (6) Dropping Out- Dalton Hedgepath, Union County; Logan Lee, Fort Campbell Two new/returning starters are the highlight here. Micah makes his return to the lineup and set Agulto and Turner on guard. Curl's cut is finished I believe as he has finally reached 120. 126 1. Bryce Sheffer, Union County (1) 2. Jeremiah Kline, Trigg County (2) 3. Daniel Dyess, UHA (3) 4. Camerin Cole, Christian County (4) 5. Zach McCoy, Ohio County (5) 6. Jacob Bellah, Calloway County (6) Dropping out- None I didn't notice any change myself, but again I can barely count to 10. 132 1. Chance Collins, UHA (1) 2. Scott Ruttman, Calloway County (2) 3. Rylan Ervin/Seth Nelson, Union County (3) 4. Austin Crabtree, Trigg County (4) 5. Kestin McClain, McCracken County (UR) 6. John Eggers, Fort Campbell (5) Dropping Out- Ethan Hoover, Ohio County McClain comes into the rankings with a huge pin over Eggers that was part of the reason McCracken County pulled off the upset over Fort Campbell. Nelson and Ervin have both wrestled lately so to prevent a repeat of what I had to do with Micah I cheat. 138 1. BJ Miller, Ohio County (UR) 2. Derek Miller, Paducah Tilghman (1) 3. Chance Oxford, Union County (2) 4. Diion Leavell, Christian County (3) 5. Dalton Putty, UHA (4) 6. Jack Haynes, Calloway County (6) Dropped Out- Blake Brown, Ohio County BJ Miller announces his return to action with a bang, with wins over Miller (is Derrick a misspelling or a different Miller? help me out here) and Oxford to catapult himself into first place. 145 1. Kobe Perry, Christian County (1) 2. Corbin Ryder, Fort Campbell (2) 3. Tim Pike, Union County (3) 4. Logan Thomas, Calloway County (4) 5. Braden Sperry, Caldwell County (5) 6. Blake Brown, Ohio County (138) Dropping Out- Matt Livingston, Trigg County And Brown back in 152 1. Jackson Oxford, Union County (1) 2. Dylan Gray, Caldwell County (2) 3. Nicholas Walls, Calloway County (3) 4. Ivan Lawson, Hoptown (5) 5. Malik Cunningham, Trigg County (6) 6. Josh McCoy, Ohio County (UR) Dropping Out- Justin Newby, Christian County Gray and Oxford reward my faith by wrestling this past weekend, 152 is a sneakily tough weight. Newby taken out for not wrestling 160 1. Nate Williams, Hoptown (1) 2. Kenneth Sells III who might be the one called Tre, Christian County (UR) 3. Mario Perez, Calloway County (2) 4. Alex Hideg, McCracken County (3) 5. Caleb Riley, Caldwell County (4) 6. Ryan Hedrick, Union County (5) Dropping Out- Noelle Williams, Paducah Tilghman And Sells returns. 170 1. Gino Haywood, Fort Campbell (1) 2. Avery Buckman, Union County (2) 3. Isaiah Lawson, Hoptown (3) 4. Keyven Sells, Christian County (4) 5. Will Crabtree, UHA (5) 6. Jaishon Faison, Trigg County (6) Dropping Out- None If I missed a result let me know 182 1. Xavier Pate, Christian County (1) 2. Kane Morris, Union County (2) 3. Conner Keenan, Fort Campbell (3) 4. Tige Littlefield. Caldwell County (4) 5. Gage Parker, Ohio County (5) 6. Rustin Burkeen, Calloway County (UR) Dropping Out- Other Calloway County As we get into the higher weights the chances I make an error from exhaustion so be on your guard. 195 1. Cole Sherman, Union County (1) 2. Eugene Butler, Hoptown (2) 3. Cody Jackson, Calloway County (3) 4. Phil Bradley, UHA (220) 5. Anthony Adkinson, Fort Campbell (4) 6. Kyler Bohn, Trigg County (5) Dropping Out- Anthony Brown, Caldwell County See 182 220 1. Conner Sherman, Union County (1) 2. Zach Farris, Ohio County (UR) 3. Colby Culver, Calloway County (3) 4. Chance Orr, Paducah Tilghman (5) 5. Ben McGregor, Caldwell County (6) 6. Levi Gross, McCracken County (UR) Dropping Out- Bradley, UHA; Ogburn, Fort Campbell Well Farris stepped on the mat as #1 and left #2, props to Sherman for a big win and a quick one at that. Farris is definitely the calibar of wrestler who can come back from that loss. This will be an anticipated rematch. Ogburn hasn't wrestled since the 6th so I'm pulling him, had trouble finding a new 6th though. 285 1. Raynel Brown, Union County (1) 2. Luke Shaffer, Ohio County (2) 3. Andrew Lee, McCracken County (4) 4. David Nikolao, Fort Campbell (3) 5. Maurice Catlett, Trigg County (5) 6. Mahlon Ray, Christian County (6) Dropping Out- Connor Adams, Calloway County Lee picks up a big win over Nikolao to help cap off McCracken's upset. I think Ray hasn't wrestled and I should take him out but trackwrestling is aterrible website and stopped loading Team 1. Union County (46.5) Shocker 2. Christian County (20.5) Holding on by the skin of their teeth right now, I drop Ray like I wanted to before track gave out and they're tied with Ohio. 3. Ohio County (20) Had a fantastic week, if I gave wrestler of the week awards it would go to BJ Miller he has been very impressive. 4. Fort Campbell (15.5) Some pieces are falling into place, others are falling off. Never know what team you will see on any given day. 5. Calloway County (14) Calloway is leading the muddled three of them, Hoptown, and Trigg this week. In fact, they are a couple pieces away from hopping Fort Campbell this week. Next week I have no guarantees who will be 5th, in fact I'm not even sure if my math is right here. McCracken has shown a lot of improvement across the board and is probably better than Paducah right now, they just need a couple more pieces. 6. Hoptown (13) 7. Trigg County (11.5) 8. UHA (9) 9. Caldwell County (7.5) 10. Paducah Tilghman (4.5) 11. McCracken County (4)

    Region Rankings Week 1 (12/8)

Ok you have all waited long enough, I finally have the weights and I have some results. Nothing major to report as everyone settles down to their weight and gets in to their groove. I will take a moment though to complain that I hate trackwrestling's coding and format, I miss NWCA scorebook, but I work with what I'm given. Any results from last year I missed feel free to curse me out in anger and correct me 106 1. Kaleb Sapp, Ohio County 2. Kaleb Hammons, Caldwell County 3. Billy Pride, Union County 4. Edward Agulto, Christian County 5. James McDow, Hopkinsville 6. Isaac Aguier, Trigg County There are a couple people who appear to have moved up (Knight and Turner) and one who isn't on a roster (Gonzalez) so as of right now this is Sapp's weight to lose. 113 1. Saul Ervin, Union County 2. Luis Regaldo, Fort Campbell 3. Dakota Himes, Ohio County 4. Daniel Knight, Christian County 5. Austin Zeppes, Calloway County 6. Ray Hamilton, Paducah Tilghman Had one of those days where I was nearly done with the rankings when I realized I had Union's lineup wrong. Saul and Regaldo are both returning state placers, Ervin has technique but Regaldo has size. If they meet each other early enough in the season it will definitely be one of the premier matches. 120 1. Devontae Turner, Trigg County 2. Froilan Agulto, Christian County 3. Micah Ervin, Union County 4. Cameron Dearmond, Hoptown 5. Logan Lee, Fort Campbell 6. Ben Hannamond, Calloway County With the the way weights are right now this is a very barren weight. Keep an eye on Micah Ervin of course, with the sort of attention due any Ervin. 126 1. Bryce Sheffer, Union County 2. Jeremiah Kline, Trigg County 3. Daniel Dyess, UHA 4. Camerin Cole, Christian County 5. Zach McCoy, Ohio County 6. Jacob Bellah, Calloway County This weight has two tiers, maybe three of great wrestling. Sheffer is gunning for a state title and Kline is looking for a top 6 placing. Dyess and Cole both have at least outside shots at placing, Dyess picked up a win over Cole in Tennessee. 132 1. Chance Collins, UHA 2. Rylan Ervin, Union County 3. Scott Ruttman, Calloway County 4. Austin Crabtree, Trigg County 5. Alex Curl, Fort Campbell 6. Ethan Hoover, Ohio County Collins had a good weekend so starts week 1 at top, Rylan Ervin has moved up a lot of weight pretty quickly so his success will remain to be seen. Ruttman currently leads a sizable bunch of wrestlers competing for the last two spots. 138 1. Derek Miller, Paducah Tilghman 2. Chance Oxford, Union County 3. Chandler Martin, McCracken County 4. B.J. Miller, Ohio County 5. Dalton Putty, UHA 6. Jack Haynes, Calloway County This weight looks VERY tough right now. Right now this appears to be one of those weights we might see people moving up and down considering Putty has the talent of a state qualifier. Those top four guys will finish in any order on any day. 145 1. Kobe Perry, Christian County 2. Corbin Ryder, Fort Campbell 3. Tim Pike, Union County 4. Logan Thomas, Calloway County 5. Braden Sperry, Caldwell County 6. Blake Brown, Ohio County While not holding a lot of state placing threats the weight does have a collection of wrestlers who will battle it out for the region finals. I am being very unfair to Corbin I feel, but it is still my policy to underrank Fort Campbell wrestlers, best way to avoid any alma mater bias. Pike, Ryder, and Perry could all win the region. 152 1. Jackson Oxford, Union County 2. Dylan Gray, Caldwell County 3. Nicholas Walls, Calloway County 4. Justin Newby, Christian County 5. Ivan Lawson, Hoptown 6. Malik Cunningham, Trigg County Oxford is the easy favorite but it is interesting to see how Gray does since he has grown an absurd amount in a short amount of time. 3rd down is fairly wide open with a couple people contesting. 160 1. Nate Williams, Hoptown 2. Kenny Sells, Christian County 3. Jaishon Faison, Trigg County 4. Caleb Riley, Caldwell County 5. Ryan Hedrick, Union County 6. Noelle Williams, Paducah Tilghman This weight looks to be a close battle between Williams and Sells and not much else at the moment. 170 1. Gino Haywood, Fort Campbell 2. Avery Buckman, Union County 3. Isaiah Lawson, Hoptown 4. Will Crabtree, UHA 5. Mario Perez, Calloway County 6.Jared Turner, Paducah Tilghman Just as I predicted Haywood is going 170 and is a decent favorite, however Buckman is up at this weight and very dangerous. Lawson and Crabtree are two other wrestlers who could maybe slip into the finals if Haywood or Buckman have a bad day. 182 1. Xavier Pate, Christian County 2. Kane Morris, Union County 3. Tige Littlefield. Caldwell County 4. Rustin Burkeen, Calloway County 5. Gage Parker, Ohio County 6. Anthony Adkinson, Fort Campbell Pate and Morris have this weight pretty much set. Littlefield and Burkeen don't have any challengers for the last two qualifying spots at this moment. I put in Adkinson because he is the only other person I could even find matches for, even if they are losses. I also want to take this time to thank Ohio County for making me very happy by having both Hatfields and McCoys on their wrestling team. 195 1. Cole Sherman, Union County 2. Kajwan Major, Christian County 3. Conner Keenan, Fort Campbell 4. Eugene Butler, Hoptown 5. Cody Jackson, Calloway County 6. Kris Easterling, Ohio County Haven't found any matches for Major but I will keep him on here, Sherman is the favorite though. Keenan has looked good so far this year, but this year still only consists of one week. 220 1. Zach Farris, Ohio County 2. Conner Sherman, Union County 3. AJ Ogburn, Fort Campbell 4. Colby Culver, Calloway County 5. Phil Bradley, UHA 6. Chance Orr, Paducah Tilghman Farris and Sherman will be an interesting match but I greatly favor Farris who is going into this year as the #2 guy behind the Norse God made flesh in Austin Myers. Ogburn leads the rest of the pack but Culver and Bradley are legitimate threats. 285 1. Raynel Brown, Union County 2. David Nikolao, Fort Campbell 3. Luke Shaffer, Ohio County 4. Maurice Catlett, Trigg County 5. Mahlon Ray, Christian County 6. Connor Adams, Calloway County The top 3 is going to be a BATTLE. Nikolao got the surprise win over Shaffer at a takedown tournament but that doesn't mean much with heavyweight. He has been hurt two years in a row which is a huge knock on the last Nikolao, but his brother Tim was able of coming back, and Tim doesn't have the talent David does. That said Shaffer probably still burns from his loss to Jorstad and has the talent to beat Brown and Nikolao. Brown is on top right now but Shaffer and Nikolao are right behind him. Consider them 1A, 1B, and 1C right now. With heavy it's just a battle of who gets on top first. Team 1. Union County Didn't even have to do the math here 2. Christian County (23.5) Losing Austin hurts a lot and they have a lot more question marks than they are used to having. But County is still a tough team. 3. Fort Campbell (19.5) The biggest question mark every year is where exactly Fort Campbell finishes. I am told that the team lacks the issues that plagued in the past and right now it's just a question of how much they can develop in the time they have. Despite where they are right now they still have four potential region champions which will be huge come the region tournament. 4. Ohio County (17.5) Like Fort Campbell, Ohio County carries a lot of potential regional champs that could shoot them up the standings. 5. Trigg County (13) The return of Kline bumps Trigg up to fifth. Hoptown has a young bunch lead by Nate Williams that need to grow into the shoes of their dark horse status last year. Calloway, Caldwell, and UHA are neck to neck and it rests on who develops the most. Paducah has a state title threat in Miller buoying the team. McCracken returns Chandler Martin. 6(t). Hoptown (10) 6(t). Calloway County (10) 8. Caldwell County (9.5) 9. UHA (9) 10. Paducah Tilghman (7) 11. McCracken County (2) 12. Graves County (RIP)

    Region 1 Preseason Rankings 8/14/14

Well they aren't quite to the standard I want them but with the preseason it is best just to get them out there so at the very least I can get some corrections coming in. A lot of guess work on weights and digging through old results trying to remember who beat who. There will definitely be errors here and there and some forgotten kids because that's the nature of the beast. As usual feedback is expected and appreciated. Any grievous errors I will blame on the fact I no longer have wisdom teeth to guide me. 106 1. Saul Ervin, Union County 2. Kaleb Sapp, Ohio County 3. Devontae Turner, Trigg County 4. Daniel Knight, Christian County 5. Eric Gonzalez, McCracken County 6. Jacob Bellah, Calloway County Assuming Ervin weighs as much as he looked like he weighed last year he should be returning to 106 this year, which leaves him and Kaleb Sapp at the top of the weight. Beyond these two it is just a question of who is staying at this weight and who is graduating to the big boys. Regaldo has been getting bigger so I assume he moves up but not sure on the rest of this bunch, especially Knight. 113 1. Luis Regaldo, Fort Campbell 2. Froilan Agulto, Christian County 3. Cameron Dearmond, Hoptown 4. Caleb Hammons, Caldwell County 5. Dakota Himes, Ohio County 6. Jordan Snyder, Calloway County If Regaldo makes 113 he may be the favorite to win it coming off of a podium year. Out of this batch Regaldo doesn’t have many challengers but who knows how people have been growing. 120 1. Bryce Sheffer, Union County 2. Camerin Cole, Christian County 3. Jack Haynes, Calloway County 4. Alex Curl, Fort Campbell 5. James Whitaker, Caldwell County 6. Ray Hamilton, Paducah Tilghman I’m pretty certain Sheffer will be here and it doesn’t really matter how the weights fall he will be the favorite. Fort Campbell is putting a lot into Curl who had huge shoes to fill with DeWitt getting hurt last year and really came into his own near the end, depending on how much he fills out he can be a threat. Don’t discount some people I have both above and below this weight ending up here. 126 1. Derek Miller, Paducah Tilghman 2. Wes Gray, Caldwell County 3. Daniel Dyess, UHA 4. Rylan Ervin, Union County 5. Austin Zeppes, Calloway County 6. Ethan Feezor, Graves County Miller had a monster finish to last season and I expect him to at least challenge for a state title this year if not the next. Gray and Dyess are two big weight question marks, no idea where they are going. Ervin gets stuck here virtue of I have no idea where else he can fit in the Union lineup, he’d probably be giving up a lot of weight here. 132 1. Caleb Austin, Christian County 2. Chance Oxford, Union County 3. BJ Miller, Ohio County 4. Jeremiah Kline, Trigg County 5. Chance Collins, UHA 6. Samuel Yates, Hoptown Austin could be here or 126 and at either weight his goal is a state title. Miller and Kline have been in the game awhile now and both are hungry for that state podium finish. Oxford similar to Ervin just has to find somewhere he fits in the lineup, might have to give up weight but we will see, definitely a very talented wrestler wherever he ends up. Collins is a threat depending on how the weights shake up 138 1. Chandler Martin, McCracken County 2. Dalton Putty, UHA 3. Logan Thomas, Calloway County 4. Braden Sperry, Caldwell County 5. Gideon Ellison, Fort Campbell 6. Blake Brown, Ohio County 138 is the first of a couple fairly barren weights, people shifting around and a very tough class of seniors graduating. Out of the people I see at this weight Martin is the favorite unless Leavell doesn’t move up then it will get pretty scrappy. 145 1. Diion Leavell, Christian County 2. Tim Pike, Union County 3. Corbin Ryder, Fort Campbell 4. Nicholas Walls, Calloway County 5. Evan Martin, Paducah Tilghman 6. Josh McCoy, Ohio County This weight will be interesting after being one of the toughest weight classes the past couple years. Leavell and Ryder have both been talked up with lots of potential with Leavell being the more successful one in his briefer career. Ryder can be dangerous when healthy, even if he does wrestle differently then his better known brother. 152 1. Jackson Oxford, Union County 2. Kobe Perry, Christian County 3. Ivan Lawson, Hoptown 4. Allen Dickinson, Calloway County 5. Jaishon Faison, Trigg County 6. Christian Barefield, UHA Pretty much from 138 up I am having a crap shoot in determinating the weight classes, so don’t put too much stock into them. Oxford got upset by Hedrick last year and by all means had more than enough talent to place at state, Hedrick just had a miracle run through the bracket. He should run relatively untouched through the region even with a large weight jump. 160 1. Avery Buckman, Union County 2. Isaiah Lawson, Hoptown 3. Justin Newby, Christian County 4. William Crabtree, UHA 5. Alex Hideg, McCracken County 6. Noelle Williams, Paducah Tilghman Buckman shouldn’t see that many threats unless Nate Williams makes 160 again then this will be one of the closer finals matches come regionals. 170 1. Nate Williams, Hoptown 2. Gino Haywood, Fort Campbell 3. Kane Morris, Union County 4. Kenny Sells, Christian County 5. Jared Turner, Paducah Tilghman 6. Rustin Burkeen, Calloway County Now comes the question how good Haywood can be not giving up about 10-12 pounds to everyone he wrestles. Potentially Haywood could win the region here but you have to give the nod to Nate Williams based off of his finish at state last year. Kane Morris and Kenny Sells are both also extremely dangerous podium chasers, Sells having made it while healthy before while Morris has wrestled the best kids extremely tough and falling just short, and if all end up here then this will be an extremely tough weight class. 182 1. Xavier Pate, Christian County 2. Collin Feezor, Graves County 3. Conner Keenan, Fort Campbell 4. Tige Littlefield. Caldwell County 5. Gage Parker, Ohio County 6. Josh Baker, McCracken County As it stands this weight is very bare and empty after Pate, I don’t expect it to stay this way for long, especially if 170 ends up as tough as I am predicting it to be. 195 1. Conner Sherman, Union County 2. Kajwan Major, Christian County 3. Cody Jackson, Calloway County 4. Anthony Adkinson, Fort Campbell 5. Kyler Bohn, Trigg County 6. Zach Heath, Graves County Looks to be an interesting final matchup, Sherman was better during the regular season but lost out to Major come regionals, mostly because of the draw of the bracket. Only for Sherman to have a far better state tournament compared to Major. After these two it’s a fairly barren weight with wrestling needing to either move weight classes or develop to make things interesting. 220 1. Zach Farris, Ohio County 2. Cole Sherman, Union County 3. Tevin Toler, Christian County 4. AJ Ogburn, Fort Campbell 5. Colby Culver, Calloway County 6. Eugene Butler, Hoptown Farris being at 220 puts him squarely at the second in the state after Austin Myers. After Farris there are plenty of tough wrestlers with Sherman being the leader of a batch of 5 or so wrestlers who all have at least outside shots at the regional finals. 285 1. Raynel Brown, Union County 2. Jake Jorstad, Fort Campbell 3. Luke Shaffer, Ohio County 4. Dezjuan Owen, Hoptown 5. Maurice Catlett, Trigg County 6. Andrew Lee, Calloway County As I say year after year, you can’t predict heavyweight. Last year’s regional results were all over the place and even more confounding come the state tournament. But you have to give credit where credit is due and Raynel Brown not only placed at state, he also nearly AAed at Fargo; whereas Jorstad and Shaffer are two talented but highly inconsistent heavyweights. One thing to keep an eye on is a battle between two heavyweights in the Fort Campbell room as David Nikolao returns off from yet another injury and should hopefully push both Jorstad and/or himself over the top come postseason. Team 1. Union County Union is still far from the day of getting unseated on top the region. 2. Christian County Christian returns several important pieces headlined of course by Caleb Austin. 3. Fort Campbell Fort Campbell has talent, but lots of question marks. A different team everytime you see them, needs several of the high potential guys to have breakout seasons. 4. Hoptown Returns a similar sort of Dark Horse threat they had last year, not quite as experienced but still dangerous. 5. Ohio County Best of the rest right now with Calloway and Paducah not far behind them, their state finalist threat in Farris should keep them in statewide discussion as an always tough team.

    FCHS's Preseason Rankings

Well I know I promised these a long time ago, but you try going through all these results AND predict weight changes. I'm not Ranger, I don't have the connections and data to make this a 2 month job versus a 3 month job. Expect a TON of mistakes and if you see one you better call me out on it. I am pretty sure I got a couple schools wrong and there are tons of kids I probably missed. But my mistakes aside I really wanted to get something out to you guys since you've been waiting so patiently. It's only a top 12 because anymore and my brain might have exploded, this would be a lot easier if I knew were these kids were going. There might be a Region 1 bias at certain weights since that is the one place I trust my knowledge 106 1. Joey Scaggs, Dixie Heights 11 2. David Hernandez, Henry Clay 12 3.
