  1. I have a friend/ former football and wrestling teammate relocating from my hometown in Northeast Ohio to Bowling Green. Going to be transferred from the now closed GM plant near Youngstown to the Corvette Assembly plant. He was an all-state running back and Ohio state qualifier in wrestling, and apparently his son, who will be entering 6th grade this year, is even better than he was. Son has already won a couple of youth state championships in Ohio. They’re looking for a place where the son will be able to continue with both football and wrestling. The best I can tell, Ohio county would be the closest with both, right? Hartford to Bowling Green is only about 45 minutes down the Natcher Parkway, and they could get even closer if they went further south around Beaver Dam or closer to the Western KY Parkway. Anyone know of any programs closer? Barren County doesn’t have a program anymore that I am aware of, nor does Warren County or Bowling Green Independent, right?

    Closest Program to Bowling Green?

I just use Portland as an example. I haven’t really done my homework on TN teams yet. What he told me was between 30-45 minutes would be the max he would want to drive every day to work. He can go into Northern TN and have half the drive of Christian County. I did the 1+ hour drive every morning from Georgetown to Cincinnati and it is brutal. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I just think it’s too far from BG, but I will tell him it’s an option.

Christian county is over an hour drive. That’s pretty significant every day. He could go into northern Tennessee and be closer. It’s only 36 minutes from Portland, TN to the plant.
  4. I have a tournament on my schedule every weekend, minus between christmas and new year, from Dec 1 through regionals, except the weekend of Jan 5-6th. Anyone having one that weekend within a reasonable drive from Lexington?

OAC WRESTLING VS THE WORLD, Ep. 1

I see. Even though I grew up around Alliance with a mom who was a Mount alum, I find nothing more annoying than Mount Union Football. John Carroll was my second choice of Colleges. I had an ROTC scholarship in my pocket, and the only two OAC schools with an on-campus ROTC program were Cap and JCU. I liked Columbus better than the east side of Cleveland.

OAC WRESTLING VS THE WORLD, Ep. 1

Which OAC school? I played football at Capital from 93-96. I grew up not far from Mount Union, where my mom graduated from. My dad was the head wrestling coach at Beloit West Branch from 1978-1989 and played football at BW for Lee Tressel back in the late 60’s. Several of his wrestlers went to OAC schools, mostly Mount, BW, or Muskingum. I remember as a kid going to Mount Union matches when one of his former wrestlers was going to be there.
  8. Hey all. I’m new here. I posted this under “programs that should start wrestling,” but wanted some wider exposure. My father was a wrestling coach in NE Ohio, outside Canton, for over a decade. He coached two state champions and a bunch of state placers. I was a very average wrestler, but loved the sport and it made me a much better athlete, I believe allowing me to continue my football career into college (2-year starter at a D3 school in Ohio). My son is a 7th grader at St John in Georgetown and will likely attend Lex Cath. I know they had a program a couple years ago that failed due to low numbers and lack of support. Would like your thoughts, as fans of wrestling around the commonwealth, on what might help me try to bring wrestling back to Lex Cath. Here is my original post: I’m trying desperately to help Lexington Catholic resurrect their program. Haven’t exactly had the door shut in my face, but not a lot of support from the AD as it is his belief that there isn’t enough demand from the community based on the failed attempt to start a program there a few years ago. I started a youth/ Middle school program at the feeder schools and have had about 10 kids each of the last two years. Coach Critchfield at Henry Clay gave me a great deal on an old mat to get us going. My son is in 7th grade this year, so I have at least two years to convince the administration that it’s worth it, even if we are small and start slowly. Still a work in progress, but hopeful. Lexington Christian has also approached me, so perhaps if Catholic won’t be receptive, Christian will. It would be great if at least one of the private schools here in Lexington would start a program
