  1. Lol!!! It just cracks me up how regularly people want to gripe at a man that doesn’t have to do these rankings, but chooses to. Without ever appreciating the value that it adds to KY wrestling as it continues to make huge strides catching up to the neighboring states as far starting to produce some really high level wrestlers. If someone is upset at the rank their kid, grandchild, or friend has…..then use the energy you waste complaining on this forum to motivate that kid to get better! Bottom line. Because at the end of the season the only rank that’s going to be remembered is the one they walk away from the state tournament with

    No podium or awards

I can’t believe what I just read.....30 minutes to weigh in, skin check, eat/hydrate, warm up, and then wrestle? Is KHSAA really that ignorant? As a resident/former wrestler in Ohio with a nephew wrestling in the KY state tournament; this is completely insane! Ohio ran a fairly normal Sectional, District, and State tournament this year without incident. I realize that KY is lagging behind surrounding states when it comes to wrestling, but I also know many programs in KY are working their butts off to close that gap. KHSAA is either clearly disconnected or intentionally working against these programs and athletes. It’s a real shame. The aesthetics of the podium and standing on it to be recognized is one thing, but creating a situation where an athlete could be potentially not performing at their highest level due to lack of time for proper food digestion and warm up? That’s absurd!

    Missed school extra pound?

Just for perspective.....my nephew has been wrestling at a weight class in MS all season and giving up 10-12lbs instead of cutting the 2lbs to make the weight class closer to his actual weight. He’s been beating the tar out of bigger kids because his technique is superior. Although there are some advantages to cutting fat from your frame to wrestle at a weight class with maximum muscle mass and minimum fat content, technique trumps brute strength every time. When I wrestled in OH(24 yrs ago lol) if I remember correctly; we would have to certify our weight around December, wrestle at least 1 match at the actual weight class, and send a certified form to the OHSAA. So I was wrestling at 152 and I had to make that actual weight and wrestle a 152 match to certify, then in January we’d get 1lb growth weight and February we’d get 1lb. Seems like a sensible way to go about it.

What is the seeding criteria for state ?

Lane Kiser just owned Preston Church at the State Duals. Kiser was beating Church 14-3 and then Kiser decked him. Yeah to be fair to Adams, Adams should be seeded 1st

What is the seeding criteria for state ?

Gotcha. Yeah that all makes sense. And yes. I was Southwest Ohio. Only time we saw the Northeast kids other than in the state tournament were at in-state national tournaments like the Ironman, Top Gun, or the Midwest Classic. Thanks again for the breakdown coach. Good luck to your boys as well!

What is the seeding criteria for state ?

I was just throwing out random regions as examples trying generalize my question. I’m not going to point out specific examples, but there are some examples of kids being a seed higher then a kid who beat them. I’m from Ohio, was an elite level wrestler back in the day, and my knowledge of the sport runs deep. I have a nephew in KY and was just curious about how the seeds/brackets were decided upon for state. Like you had stated earlier and like I’ve told my nephew.....seeds, bracket placement, etc. shouldn’t matter. If you’re the best you’ll welcome any challenger and be prepared to beat anyone that steps into that circle with you. Good luck to all this year’s qualifiers and I’m looking forward to a competitive tournament!

What is the seeding criteria for state ?

So will there be a seed meeting to seed the Region champs? As the brackets stand right now there are Region champs seeded over other Region Champs who beat them. Example Region 5 champ seeded #1, but lost head to head during the season to Region 2 champ who is seeded #3. Seems like the Regional Champs should be seeded by some criteria. Particularly if we’re seeding kids by criteria during regular season tournaments.

Lane Kiser is only a 7th grader on your next update. He’s a grizzly bear at 152.

    Spring/Summer wrestling opportunities?

Thanks for the information!!! What are the qualification requirements for 6th grader to make the national folkstyle and/or dual team? Same question for team KY?

    Spring/Summer wrestling opportunities?

Any events scheduled through KY USA other than the spring tournament at John Hardin?
  12. Has the KY wrestling association, clubs/organizations, or promoters of the sport considered joining NUWAY to give kids a spring/summer outlet to not only keep perfecting their craft, but also put KY wrestlers on a national stage. I'm asking because I was looking for tournaments for my nephew to get in this off-season and came across my home state of Ohio's WAY page and was impressed by all the opportunities for youth/HS wrestlers. Here's NUWAY's link: http://www.nuwaywrestling.com/page/show/1197331-national-united-wrestling-association-for-youth Here's Ohio's WAY page: http://www.ohiowaywrestling.com/ I'd love to see even more opportunities open up for not just my nephew, but all of the quality kids I got to see wrestle at the KY middle school state tournament yesterday. Are there opportunities in KY I may be overlooking to recommend to my nephew to keep improving his technique in the off-season?

    Rankings 1-7-18

Just a possible update to your 140 rankings; Lane Kiser is a 6th grader and he beat Trinity Gottler in a match earlier this season. He also finished 3rd at the Woodford County Middle School tournament. He lost to Lucas Embleton at that tournament, but the kid he beat for 3rd place pinned Trinity at the tournament.
