Why would it even be voted on? Girls wrestling uses girls weight classes. It should be a given.

I generally do not make it a habit to agree with Doc. However, this was basic common sense. But Doc look at who conducted the survey, a group of Political appointees who know absolutely nothing about most sports outside of the big 3. (Football, Basketball and Baseball.) If they would just ask The KYWCA or the KWOA things would run so much smoother. Better yet actually have someone with true wrestling knowledge on the Board of control. Just an old fat mans opinion.

  2. The next question is. If KHSAA truly cared about our sport, they would either reimburse officials for the license and /or supply officials, especially the new officials with everything needed / required to perform their duties. I just looked into it, the license is $60, to get the exact clothing required black and white striped shirt, grey and black striped shirt and KHSAA jacket is about $130 depending on the officially licensed supplier you by from. Tha  does not include shoes if you do not have them proper shoe, Pants if you do not have a comfortable pair of black pants, Whistle, anklets, arm bands, red / green coin. Now that may not be a large sum of money to some, however if we are tyrying to get newer younger officials for them it may too much and we know that our officials don't get paid near what they should. So KHSAA expects new officials to pony up $200+ and because they are new and unproven they will get the the smaller lower paying assignments ( which is completely understandable). So they will be in the hole financially until they complete at least their firast 3 or 4 assignments. Then they bhave to deal with Attitudal, Complaining and in some cases down right A&&H*&E coaches ( which at some point all of us who have coached fell into 1 or all of those categories). So I say again if the KHSAA truly cared about our kids they would make it worth the officials time and effort. This is not just a Wrestling issue, we need good officials in all sports.

  3. Ranger,

Looking at the 215# brackets I noticed you have 4 wrestlers ranked that aren't even going to the semi state rounds? Are you counting them in as participants because they may get in Via an Alternate spot? Just curious.

This would be a statement that Ranger or Dutch could field better in detail but I remember 2013-2018 my son qualifying those years and  their being brackets , finalist gear and huge medals that John Roth, Jason and Brandon designed. My son has one of those brackets on his wall and the gear and 4 MS medals to show for it. The only girl I can recall was Miracle at 92 lbs back when we were in Montgomery county in 2014-15 and she was a beast!! BUT I do agree that the last couple years the awards have changed and the excitement towards the finals were lack luster. Not fitting for kids that work hard all year for 4:30 of spotlight!!

Middle School Had the 5.5 inch medals, singlets, bracket boards.  Youth had the 3 inch medals and got to keep the bracket paper from the table.

All those contracts with vendors were voided when KSWA was dissolved and the new group was created.

I believe you’ve missed the fact that it’s the only facility suitable for the number of kids that we serve, given the time restraints of trying to find this kind of venue in a short timeframe. For instance NKU has a program coming up and we really wanted to go there,  bad news was that there arena is booked for 4 years in the window of time we need. There is no argument that the location is out there, but it’s a venue and it’s sponsored. Not to mention that it is located in region 4 which is the largest in the state if you want to use your  Charleston South Carolina argument.

I stand by my previous post, it beats canceling. We need to pull together and make the best of what we have, division only hurts kids and the sport.

These are all discussind that should be had between the coaches at the coaches meetings not in a forum setting like this. It undermines what the real reason we are all here for and that is the wrestlers themselves.

    Everyone,

I wanted to take a minute to thank Chris Duke and Mike Harrod for taking the time to create middle school rankings for the state of Kentucky.  After volunteering to keep them going, several of us from the Oldham County area have realized the amount of time to research and create the rankings is no small task.  The rankings should serve as a fun opportunity for the kids to receive some recognition throughout the wrestling season.  We completely understand that some kids will change weights, move weight  classes, wrestle for high school teams, this upcoming season.  Please share results, match into, etc. via email throughout the season and we as a group will update the rankings accordingly.  We were able to throw together a top 5/6ish list for all classes from 70-105.  Classes 113 and above become challenging considering many in the upper weight classes were 8th graders.  So, for classes 113 and above there is a listing of kids in various weights that we can eventually put in order when the tournaments begin.  We hope to gather information from across the state via email for tournaments and duals(duels) that are not on trackwrestling for the upcoming season.  If you would like to share information please email Matt Brown at mbrown8378@gmail.com or Brent Dunn at williambrentdunn@att.net.  We will try to add a team ranking component as we get into the season.  Please remember we are doing the best we can and want to provide recognition to the kids and want to be as unbiased as possible.  I know everyone is chomping at the bit to get started and here's to a great 2019.20 wrestling season.

    Thanks

    Matt Brown

I am a current assistant coach and this is where I get my info or ask Jon Carr. I have never heard of the google coaches group.  I am not bitching, I just want to help the sport grow. This seems like a good outlet to share info.

    Doc,

The google coaches group was set up by the previous board as Listserv was supposed to be going obsolete. I still use list serv as well as the google page. for all coaching and board issues everything else we send thru https://www.kentuckyusawrestling.org/page/show/1031369-middle-school-elementary- which is OUR KFWC Official website.
