KHSAA should allow others to run the state tournament and, in turn, let KHSAA take credit for a well run, exciting, fanfare filled tournament. Freedom Hall is a good resource. I know there’s a wrestling coach with connections there. Cost would be a non issue. Fans would have to eat the food they provide - which is common at most venues anyway.

He looked GREAT. Undefeated sr year and was never in any danger at the state tournament. I was fortunate enough to be in his corner during his final middle school match in Kentucky. That bracket was STACKED (Devon Herron, Cole Thomas, Grandstaff, Spencer Moore). Super proud of him and excited to see where he ends up.

Boys High School State Wrestling venue: high school gym Girls High School State Wrestling venue: middle school gym Imagine these venues for any other sport. Pretty wild. Rhode Island doesn’t even do that.
-
From what it sounds like, the hosting schools did a good job keeping the tournaments rolling and no one is faulting the tournament directors.

Imagine if these same folks tasked themselves with ranking 30 kids per weight. -

Surely you're not comparing the KHSAA State tournament in 2022 (as well as its precedent) to that of the Olympics in 1992?
-
Except for the fact that if it is truly part of the same tournament, team points would carry over. The fact that you can lose a match one week and win a state title the next week also suggests they are two very different tournaments. State champs don't lose a match in the state tournament, historically. Just because the KHSAA calls a potato an apple doesn't make it one.
-
Please confirm if you're planning to bring your youth/middle school team. We will make sure everyone gets their fill of matches one last time before the post season. Contact: ben.ellard@paducah.kyschools.us

Wonder why they don’t just spread the 16 man bracket over the course of 3 days, then? It’s inconvenient, doesn’t make sense, but at least they’re honest. It would mitigate the error of calling “semi state” as part of the actual state tournament. I could be wrong but I’m not sure of another sport where you can lose up to 3 times in the post season and still call yourself a state champ.
-
But, it’s state lol you could conceivably go 4-6 and place in the top 6 with back to back semi slides. Or, one could finish 8th at semi state and still have the opportunity to be a state champ. Pretty wild definition of what constitutes a state tournament.
-
Same side at semi state should result in opposite sides at state….should is the key word
-
Semi means “half”. Just like “semi finals” and “semi circle”.
-
Region = District Semi State = Region State = State It’s all postseason with different names essentially.

Here is the registration link for our tournament. Looking forward to a fun, competitive day. Registration (trackwrestling.com)

If they do it for a team title, they’ll separate themselves to maximize points. One can go 107 if they aren’t cutting weight and the other can go 130. 107-142 could march into the finals with bonus points. Individually, it makes zero sense.
-
I'm sure there's nothing illegal age wise, but it is interesting to see one kid in that bracket still in middle school while another is a freshman in college in 2022.
-
It’s a shame you couldn’t find a more centralized location for a weekday tournament. Bluegrass Sportspex in Etown was a fun venue today. Keep that in mind for the future. Turn a penny loose - especially if we are going to be proud of sanctioning girls wrestling in the state.

I suspect he’s been climbing stuff.

I have zero inside knowledge of what Union county is planning to do. But, if the bodies are weighing within a certain range, I wouldn’t be surprised if: raney - 100 thomas - 107 raney - 115 heady - 123 Those bring massive team points. Again, totally contingent on what kids weigh and if that’s even possible. It might not be; and we will see a couple Union kids wrestling for the same state title. I have no doubt they will try to maximize team points any way they can.

Battle of the Brave and Bluegrass Nationals are the next couple weeks - both on track. Here's a list of tournaments you can currently find on track: 3 River Rumble Ryle Raider Rumble Henderson County Harrison County Middle School tournament Battle of Georgetown Duals Boyle County MS tournament While the data points are smaller compared to pre-COVID, there's enough to have an idea what kids are having good years. Maybe that's how the "rankings" should be. Rank the top 6 kids alphabetically. I just don't care enough to do all that leg work.

There are about 10 rankings that come out throughout the year. Complaining about one on January 12th seems odd. -

Reputation and competition schedule matters when ranking kids, not records where 45% of the wins are only against the scale.
