Congratulations to Colin Stevens who was a big dark horse in this tourney great job to fight back hard after an early loss and to all the other All-Americans. Also congrats to all the coaches who have spent the hours and time away from family and jobs to help these kids. Way to represent Kentucky Wrestling on one of the biggest stages. We are proud of you all and keep up the hard work.

Time to go to 10 weight classes

I kinda wish we had 15 weight classes. Or crunch the lower together and make one somewhere around 250. So at least if your kid is 240 he isn't wrestling 285, but that's just me. I think you have some teams in some years can never have little guys and others big guys. This year for us it was the 2 opens in the middle so I think its a year to year thing. But with my thoughts and a dollar you might can get some coffee.

    Bryce Sheffer

To his parents and family I am so sorry for your loss. I knew him personally as he and my son Skyler had grown up together wrestling at Union County Camps since they where really young. Skyler and he remained friends through the years and he was always a great young man as well as a great wrestler. He was the kid that we just couldn't get by defeating Skyler every year in the state tourney for 3 years in a row and was as much a great sport off the mat as on never the cocky kid just a great competitor. The world lost a great kid. My heart goes out to all of Union County wrestling community as well as SIUE. RIP Champ.

    Team race

Track is a good and bad thing. First the good; its a great ideal to monitor kids weight cut and help control the safety of all kids. Although its a flawed system its better than nothing. As for matches all coaches or a stat guy has to already put in the weights before he can get the next weight sheet if he uses a track weigh-in sheet. I don't see why track cant do the same for matches if you don't put in matches cant print next weigh-in sheet. Again you can still wrongly use any system. The bad with the system I see where some kids records are padded by the same match counted twice. If I print a weigh in sheet and then put in my match and the other team also puts in the same match it counts as same match twice. Happens all the time. I did this by mistake last year but when I tried to delete the extra match track wouldn't let you this happened I sent track a message and had it deleted but if you don't it counts twice. When you seed kids it just goes by the records if nobody looks at it in the seeding meeting and catches the mistakes. Then a kid who is 24-10 could be 12-5 or just some are wrong. So track is a good tool but only if everyone uses it and there is a way to insure everyone does it correctly. Also you can see where a kid has a brother one good one not but the team mistaking or not puts some of the losses on the bad kid and nobody catches that he is 120 and wrestled 220 for that loss. Honest mistake sometimes kids have same last name and first initial but the teams coach should pay attention. Again it is a helpful tool but cant be our fix to everything because everyone will not use it honestly and correct and the system doesn't catch dishonesty or human errors.

My family got into the sport in 2005 and made our first trip there in 2006. Loved the atmosphere the place had. Coaching there and watching my older son compete there was great. Even celebrated my twins 18th birthday there sad day for sure. My younger son grew up dreaming of getting his chance to be on those mats only to have his days spent in Lexingtons new site. He still talks about how much he just wished he would have gotten to wrestled there once. Thanks for the great times.

Is it just me or did they really screw this up. Before it was so easy just get on net, sign into my old account click renew charter, insurance, coaches, kids pay the dang bill. Now I cant get anything done this sucks. I think it would just be easier to go buy a blanket assurance policy for all my kids for 400 or 500 hundred dollars covers them anywhere we wrestle and be done with this crap. They can get experience and that's all i need this for I could care less about regional titles and state stuff I just want to get some young kids on the mat and this is really time consuming and to have to register for different coaches crap when you are already a certified National high school coach is a waste of time. I have sent messages to get help and still this sucks.

rjs4470 So I have finally got this figured out I believe thanks to Mr. Carr and Keith Smith. To make it easy if you are going to pay by check from school this is what I have learned and finally have mine where i can get it done. 1) You must pay $85 to renew your charter after that you can upload your profile. 2) Click on tab at the top that says club then click on the club you just renewed. 3) Once there it will say your club name and read under it Club details look across from your club name and you will see a tab MEMBERS click it this will show all your members here you can delete the ones no longer needed. You will need each of these Card #s so what I did was made a copy and placed them on word document. Then you can look up at top of page and click Profiles. 4) When this takes you to profiles you will see a blue square that reads Claim Profile click it enter the USAW # you are looking for when then click search that person will appear below where you clicked search and will have another blue box that reads Claim Profile click it and then it will add it to MY Profile for your club you must do this for each person from what I seen. 5) After you have them claimed you can go back to the tab Membership at the top click it and it will take you to a screen with all the guys you added each with a renew tab beside there name you click on it. 6) This will take you to another screen that says purchase Membership and has all your guys listed click on to the blue square that says purchase beside there name. 7) Next screen you will see that kid and his info then a drop box says type of membership click that it will show 15 dollar card or whatever you want then click acknowledge box and then the old do you want to pay extra for plastic card the USA mag will pop up click if you want if not In middle of bottom there it says " SAVE & Continue to Checkout" Click that and it will add it to your cart then my understanding is we can mail our checks to Keith Smith like old Hope this helps people might be an easier way but haven't found it yet.

So I take it since nobody else has commented I am the only one not smart enough to figure out the new website for USA Wrestling for our middle and youth kids. So if thats the case could someone please post the step by step way I can go on and renew my kids that are wrestling this season and place them on one shopping cart under my charter so I can mail in a check to pay for this as I did before. I have been told I could still do that, but cant figure out how. I have finally got to where I found my wrestlers but see no way to renew or add new ones only to delete them if no longer with our team. So any help would be greatly appreciated I a sure you.

    Program Health

We here at DC are one of those programs that are not enriched with a wrestling past and sometimes we haven't had much of a present. We started this program in 2005 and over the years have had many state qualifiers, but never a champ. Our numbers and dedication to our program has went up and down. I have been here since the start as an assistant coach and now head for last 6 years. We aren't known to have great wrestlers, but I hear a lot across the state from friends and others about the numbers and problems as do we all. We never was allowed to have a feeder program till about 4 or 5 years ago and through that our numbers stayed balanced over past couple years. I have to say the ever changing hoops you have to jump throw to even have a youth and middle school program for coaches and charters is a royal pain and makes it a tough question is it really worth it. I have fought that question a lot over the past 2 years and still think it is way to hard and don't understand why a certified high school coach should have to go through all the stuff again to coach middle school one should count for the other. Anyways last year was our worst in the history of our school, but my numbers went from 10 kids in 2016 (only 3 actually high schooler's) and State Medalist to zero state qualifiers in 2017, but we had 17 wrestlers (only 4 middle schoolers). This year we currently have 26 on the high school roster and about 7 are middle schooler's still we have very little experience with our most experienced kid a 5th year sophomore who had his first winning season last year, but we are lucky to only have 2 seniors and 1 junior so we are hoping for bigger things. We have never had more than 5 kids show up at any off-season workouts till now we had 21 kids at open mats last Mon. I believe there is 3 big things that has helped our numbers and most have been mentioned. About 4 years ago I started changing our schedule first more duals in some hard tourneys for the few good kids and a few we could actually have some success in, but also making sure that in all tourneys we entered the host schools agreed to allow backups to be placed on other teams to fill there holes so the few JV kids I do have get matches as well. We now only go to 2 individual tourney all year just so the kids know what to expect when entering Regional's. This has helped keep kids happy with match time instead of sitting and watching time. Second we have started traveling a little bit out of state where some of our kids might not get to travel much so this excites them they love the trips. On these trips we as coaches don't stress winning as much as getting experience and have fun enjoy yourself. Last year I took the kids to Alabama University as we wrestled a dual meet near there after I paid to take the kids to Bear Bryant Museum it was really cheap and the kids had a blast. I took them year before to a Military Air Museum free they enjoyed getting out and doing things together. Word has spread how much fun the team is having and numbers grew. And the 3rd thing We tell the kids up front it will be the hardest thing you have ever done in your life and if you stay with it regardless of wins and losses your body will thank you. We work hard for 5 days a week 3 hours a day lifting, running, jump rope all the stuff to get you in shape to wrestle as well as wrestling is hard. I tell them you wont always like practice you will want to quit a hundred times, but the ones that don't will someday have a winning record. It might take some of you a year to go 500 other 3 years, but if you do the stuff you need to rest when you need to work when you should then someday you will be at your goal and you all should set a reliable goal for yourself. Have a winning record maybe make state someday and finally long range hope to medal. All of you are here for a different reason keep that reason close to you and work for why you are here. We will be tough but caring and help you achieve your goals. Its not just about wrestling I tell all my kids I want grades first if you have homework do it before practice come to the room do it there because you will get much further in life with a GPA. We want good kids not just good wrestlers. I believe by us being firm but honest with them I it has helped our numbers grow. We might not ever be in the running as a great program or state championship but if we can make better kids for our world and teach them more about hard work gets you places. Then maybe our program will at least be a good one someday.

    Coaches (general Admission)

So for the first time since starting our program we had nobody make the tourney. We are a very young team so its fine our numbers are up that's good, but myself and another coach was going to go to the tourney anyways and pay out of pocket for the hotel and food as well. Cost estimated at 300 for the the weekend. Now I am told that we also have to pay general admission as well I think this is a joke as much as we all put in over the year for the kids with very little and in some cases no pay. To have to pay to see the tourney is just that a joke we should be allowed entry as always and watch it isn't like they wouldn't make money off us in a different way food or something. I would like to wish all the kids good luck and a safe injury free tourney from all of us. Not sure we will pay the extra 60 dollars.

    What its all about

I watched the semi-finals match between Sr Brandon Leak North Hardin and 8th Seth Slayton of Caldwell Co this Saturday at Ft. Knox and what a match it was both kids giving their all each and every round. In the 3rd period as the match was a close one tempers got heated little pushing and shoving went on and the ref did a good job of bringing them back to talk and wrestle. As both fought through each others final attempts to win what was still a heated exchange the match ended with Leak coming out top 9-4. Both what came next was great as Leak got his arm raised Slayton dropped his head and Brandon went back and hugged the kid and spoke with him for a while. Don't know what he said but it was kind of pass of torch so to say or a huge show or respect this young wrestler earned. As my son and I watched this unfold he turned to me and said that's why wrestling is the greatest sport there is you give it all then embrace with all the respect in the world and you mean it. Great job both kids and for you Brandon Leak you are what this sport should be thanks.

    Should u Wrestle YEAR Round?

As for info it might be healthier to go up in summer I agree but to cut 20 pounds in a week or 2 to get back to high school is what I am referring to and that's not what its set up for shouldn't be allowed sorry if your kids are the ones cutting 20 and even 30 pounds after off season and not going down slow its not healthy you can say whatever ya want. That's all I was saying some do a great job of cutting correct and that's fine others do not there is a huge difference.

    Should u Wrestle YEAR Round?

I think we really fool ourselves that wrestling off season at higher weights and then cutting 20 to 30 pounds to wrestle high school is healthy. If we really care about our kids and weight management is important then all tourneys year around should be done on the weight management charts on track not just the ones that are high school matches. Then kids wouldn't be treated as such. As for playing other sports and things I agree play others go to camp or two then open mats or a tourney or two.
