    Dake V Burroughs

The official did not think Dake deserved the match. In all seriousness, Dake is definitely knocking at JB's door to dethrone him. It's going to happen, I just don't know if its going to be this year. Sure makes it exciting though. Either way, I don't believe that we will have a world champ at 74kg. this year. The only international tournament that Dake has won was in France which is B list at best. With JB barely beating Dake I'm not sure he can pull off another gold. JB barely won out at the World Cup;but he did win. He knows how to win matches at the international level so he just might pull out another gold. I just wouldn't be surprised if he didn't. He has to get past Dake in June to give it another go. It should be a barn burner.

    Dake V Burroughs

Dake staying in a 3 point stance is considered blocking which is passive. It is effective in Folkstyle but will be cautioned and called passivity in Freestyle. After being called for passivity from being in that position Dake continued to go back to it. He took a chance to slow Jordan down, which worked somewhat but not without a cost.

And just like that........we are done

Awesome read! It may be finished for now. However, the next generation has a way of keeping the flame. I thought I would never have anything to do with wrestling. I really didn't for about 15 years. Then my wife and I had kids. Hopefully, you will have grandkids that will keep the flame going.

    Future 5 timers ?

So that means that 169 wrestlers that were in the state rankings made it. Not impossible for an unranked guy to make it but your chances are better if you are ranked. There are always some unranked bracket busters in the ticket round at semi-state that makes the tournament exciting though!

    Future 5 timers ?

Here are some stats going into the IHSAA State Tournament this weekend. (This was taken from Indiana Mat. I'm not a statistician but I like to look at them!) Worst record:0.526 (show this to kids that don't believe that record doesn't matter) 55 unranked wrestlers are wrestling at bankers life this weekend. That's about a quarter of those wrestling. (.2455357143 to be exact) There are exactly 19 undefeated wrestlers going into the tournament Freshmen: 18 Sophomores:29 Juniors:70 Seniors:107 There are 6 previous champions 133 wrestlers with no previous state experience Average record %: .887

1st Annual Blugrass Youth State Duals

I know that I am an outsider on this issue but I do have an opinion on allowing elementary age wrestlers who wrestle/qualify for MS state not to participate in the youth state tournaments. First, I believe that elementary is the foundation for the future of MS and HS. It seems to me that making the competition at the youth level as strong as possible would continue to make MS stronger, then HS stronger. I understand the lure of having solid youth kids that can fill weight classes in MS. I know that the theory is that it will allow for different kids to be the top at the Elem level too. However, your Elementary kids will not get better by wrestling the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th best kids; they will only get better by wrestling the best. I also understand those wanting the kids that are the top 5-10% to get better competition by wrestling MS kids. My answer to that is have your Elem youth practice with MS kids at your club. I do that with my third grader. But he is in the room with our elementary kids and it pushes those kids. If you want to get stiffer competition go to tougher tournaments or national events. Go to some camps where the studs hang out. There is already a system in place so I digress. Concerning the Elementary Team State tournament: I would seek to make this a premier event for your state for all elementary kids. Let all elementary kids that are within the age requirement wrestle. Make this a tough tournament where the kids who want a tough tournament in order to get them ready for individual state compete at. A tournament like this adds many different variables that are not present in individual tournaments. One team may have a Kindergartner that weighs 40 lbs. while another team has a 2nd grader at 40 lbs. The 2nd grader may not when state at his individual weight but do well in this team tournament because he is older. Or he may not get many matches at individual state but he gets 5 matches at Team state. Also, the elementary wrestlers that do not wrestle for MS will get to see where they need to be when they wrestle their peers who are good enough to wrestle MS. If you raise the level of competition of your Elementary Team State Tournament you will also raise its prestige. I have followed the youth participation of wrestling in Kentucky and have seen that it is growing so you all are on the right track. Keep up the good work! PS: I am a big advocate of wrestling Freestyle and Greco in the "off season". But that is another topic for another thread. LOL

1st Annual Blugrass Youth State Duals

Sounds like your state duals was a big success! In Indiana the Elementary Team State Duals has become a destination event for clubs. We didn't start out with 14 teams though. Kudos to you all. I think ours started with 8 teams originally. The duals have become so popular with clubs that we went to a class system this year. Large schools and small schools. We had 16 teams represented by large schools and 7 represented by small schools. Ours is K-6th (we allowed pre-K this year for the first time/hard to get those 40 lbers). We allow 23 kids per team with 17 weight classes. All kids must be from the school district of the club with exception to home schooled kids that live in the district or wrestlers that attend a private school but live within the district. We essentially have 3 sizes of schools involved in wrestling in Indiana. 1A, 2A, and 3A. For the Elem Team State meet we allow 3A schools 2 wildcards (kids outside of the club/district), 2A schools 3 wildcards, and 1A schools 4 wild cards. We do a parade of teams before the national anthem. Some clubs make banners or coat of arms. Its really cool! Personally I have seen tremendous growth in my wrestlers as they get competition early in the season. My kids have about 20 matches in before the individual season starts. Glad to hear that you guys had a successful tournament! Keep growing wrestling in your state!
