Sammy is a super intense guy and a fantastic asst coach. Maybe he is not cut out to be a head coach. I'd say his recruiting resume while at W Va is pretty dismal. Outside of Moisey did any of them score team points at NCAAs?

Loved Barry Davis, and hated to see him retire. Hoping Bono can breathe new life into the program. Yes, it would serve Bono well to keep Ruschell on staff. A nice bridge of sorts, not to mention his ability to coach. There seems to be a growth in interest at the HS level in Wisconsin and Minnesota. Two of the better HS events Cheesehead (Wis) and Clash (Minn), bring in top talent from around the country. Maybe Bono's style can land some of this talent.

Have you checked out any of the post match interviews Flo did? Each guy showed class and grace in defeat. There is a reason these guys were wrestling on ESPN during prime time. Amazing young men.

Interesting read. Can you envision the day where DI wrestling, eroded down to the traditional powers competes with DII and DIII schools on a regular basis?.....and the lower division schools are very competitive! As DI colleges eliminate wrestling these kids will be forced to go to the smaller division schools. Its a numbers thing.

Sure would be nice. While listening to Billy Baldwin talk about how many college programs there used to be, all I could think about was Title IX.

Read a nerdy-cool piece breaking down the tourney "by the numbers." Looking at bonus points scored, place vs seed, points vs projected points based on seed, etc. Iowa had a helluva weekend. Scored the most bonus and outperformed their seeds. Spencer Lee (8th seed placed 5th) and 'Cenzo Joseph (3rd to 1st) along with Nickal pin in finals sealed it for PSU. tOSU did very well, outpointing their projected seed totals with a lot of bonus points. NC State blew past expectations. Missouri dropped a big Tiger egg. The four that did place came in below their seed. Two seeded guys (5th and 2nd) did not place. I would suspect they will up their schedule quickly. I believe their contract with MAC is up soon. Might try a different conference.

I second the Tariq Wilson sentiment. He gets my vote for NC St mvp. Another Ohio boy shining on the big stage.

It looked as if Hayes was saving energy for the next match. Heilman much bigger, but I felt Hayes was a better mat wrestler. He just didn’t wrestle. I didn’t understand his approach to that match.

If not for Mizzou middleweights, MAC is really disappointing this year. Does NCAA take previous performance into account when doling out AQs?

Tough 2nd rd draw. I was concerned about that match before tourney began.

Agree 100%. Top guys are in Cleveland right now. Many guys skip Universities any more. Doesn't hold the prestige.

BoJo and Moore looked sluggish for sure. Their 2nd rd matches were much better. Fun watching the Finesilver bros get after it. I watched ACCs where three of the four rec’d AQs. Iowa had a nice 1st rd, but you don’t win this thing on Thursday. Missouri looks nothing like a top program. Winning MAC means little, even in record breaking fashion. As other conferences show their mettle I think NCAA will take AQs from MAC and award to these other conferences. MAC HWTs have done nothing at NCAAs for years.

They wrestled a weak schedule in a weak conference. Might be coming back to bite them in the rear?

“Back in the day” DII champ got a bid to the big dance. Clearly there are guys at the smaller divisions that can compete, Thomas from Williams Baptist comes to mind. Many others to be sure. Should this practice be reintroduced?
