  1. We live in eastern Ky and no one here has started practicing yet. My son is wanting to start but no where to do it at and no one to do it with. I'm willing to travel a day or 2 a week to get him some mat time in. If anyone has started and could use an extra body let us know. Oh yeah he is 9 and a 2 time Ky state champion. He wrestled middle school last year. Won districts and placed 2nd in regions at 70lbs. qualified for middle school state. He will probably be a 70lber again this year. Let me know thanks.
  2. I think your 2x state champions are a little more advanced than mine..lol. I'll PM you shortly.
  3. The refs in BB have been terrible this year, I agree there. But some calls are just so horrid it's beyond explainable. To those refs that are this bad they need to bevtook off the mat. Sure some are going to make mistakes. Out of bounds calls, back points, even some take downs. But to call illegal moves when it's not even close to being illegal and then taking 5 points and a pin for it is just unexceptional. If their this bad they have no business on the mats. But to the ones that under stand the sport and are really trying and sometimes make small mistakes I really do appreciate them for doing their job.
  4. Sorry but I'm going to vent a little here. It's probably going to be a little long. Calling reverse halfs illegal...come on what a joke. The officiating at Nelson County and all the belt series tournaments was a travesty to the sport and state. A kid clearly pins a kid while in a mount with a reverse half in a championship match that would have gave him the belt championship. The ref is at the table making the match final the kid was up 5 points then a pin. But here's comes the coach saying that was an illegal move. After the match was over for say at least 30 seconds. The kids hand was raised and the ref was at the scorers table making it official and everything. So the coach says illegal and the ref says well let me think a minute...knowing he didn't see anything illegal in the match take place. But with the guy in his ear the whole time he let's the coach officiate the match not him. He takes 5 points and the pin away from my son for nothing. They go to overtime. Then he calls a takedown on what was clearly not even close to one. I guess the guy paid the ref or something. I hope it was a lot to take 6 months of hard work from a 8 year old that earned that win and the belt. It was so bad the other boys mom said she didn't understand the all either because nothing illegal took place. I also have it all on video if anyone would like to see it with USA wrestling. I tried to ask if they were anyone I could speak to about this ref but the USA rep there didn't know anything. The head ref was nice and said I had argument but he couldn't do anything because he didn't see it. But if youth wrestling in Kentuky expects to keep improving these refs have to be trained right and know there jobs. This ref and others like him have to be trained to understand the sport and ref it correctly. If not kids will never know what moves to hit and what moves not to hit. This reverse half that is suppose to illegal my son has used all year. Wrestling middle school in Ky, youth in OH, PA, WV, and Va and it has never been called illegal because its not. I'm typing this because my son was so heart broke that grown men would do this to him and take something away from him that he has worked so hard for. I also hope it never happens to any other kids out there that put there heart and soul into something and ge cheated by adults. Let's make our refs better so our kids can compete with the best.
  5. First let me say I'm sorry your son suffered an injury I truly hope he recovers quick and gets healthy. Not sure if you remember but when they carried your son off the mat and placed him next to the bleachers I was the guy that came over and touched his head and wished him well. You may not remember and that's understandable with the situation. I watched the match your talking about with your son. I never saw anything wrong with the moves your son was running. In fact I looked at the coach I was with and ask why they stopped it. Neither one of us could figure it out. These refs have to be trained what an actual move looks like period. I'm not complaining only because my son lost the belt. I'm complaining because 6 months of blood, sweat, and tears was taken away from my son because of an incompetent ref. He did what he was suppose to do. Wrestled and wrestled well. Up 5 points then pins the kid. Now a ref takes that away because he feels like it with no evidence to back him up. That's not right and it happens to kids every weekend in Ky because of horrid refs. Sure it happens elsewhere to but not at the clipit happens in Ky. But God bless and I hope your son heels fast and gets back to wrestling very soon.

    KY vs The world

Taylor is ranked #1 Div. 2 by OWR ( Ohio Wrestling rankings) and he finished 3rd in the state so I don't see how you have him in the 13 to 15 range. Jude out wrestled the kid by a lot (11-2) and the Taylor kid only lost to the eventual state champ 6-3 I believe so I think Jude could have very well placed first in Ohio aswell. He has earned everyones respect. He has been a all american the past 3 years while finishing runner up his sophomore year.

    KY vs The world

You say JJ Jude maybe able to hang with the Ohio kids. Well I believe he has proved he can. Let me explain. The kid (Brandon Taylor) that finished 3rd in this years Ohio high school state championship and was ranked #1 in Div. 2 in Ohio this year JJ Jude beat 11-2 at WSAZ this year. The Taylor kid only lost 6-3 I believe to the eventually Ohio state champion Chris Moore from Clyde. So I believe that proves he at least can hang with Ohio kids.

    KWOA Spring Classic-March 10

The turnout was pretty good. Not sure of the numbers but it looked to be a decent turnout. As for the belts I'm not sure how there doing it. But I think they have a belt for each weight class in each division. They had the belts there at the tourney and they were more than 8 belts there. So I think it is for each weight class in each division but I could be wrong.

    KY vs The world

Yes as a whole Ky is still weaker than OH. But my point is if Ky took a (because I not have a better word) All-star team up to Oh with Ky cream of the crop wrestlers Ky would hang with them. I would love to put a full team together and do just this. I'm taking Blue to the Vipet Pit, Tournamentof Champions, and the cliff keen tourney in Oklahoma coming up. There we will see how he is progressing. But last year Blue wrestled the kid( Hartley kid) that placed 2nd in his age and weight division at the Tournament of Champions. He pinned him in the 2nd period at Bidwell Oh. So yes OH is still ahead of Ky as a whole but not at the top levels of the sport IMO.

Thanks. Yeah it's a lot of time, money, and travel but in the end I believe it will all be worth it. To be the best you have to wrestle the best and thats what we try to do. Are there going to be any camps up your way this summer? Are your boys going to be helping at any of the summer camps? Your kids are studs and I love watching them wrestling. JJ Jude and Sam Preston work with my boys a lot and it's making them better and coach Matneys not a bad coach to learn from he does great with them.

    KY vs The world

Kentuckys wrestling is catching up with Ohio very fast. I've watched some high school (including the whole state tournament) but mostly I deal with middle school and youth. My son is a 8 yr old 2nd grader and the only time he has wrestled in the state of Kentucky is middle school(which he finished 4th in his region) and the youth state tournament. He has not lost in the state of Ohio in youth tournaments. We have wrestled from Cleveland to Bidwell to New Lexington so we have wrestled all around the state. He has wrestled all the top kids in his weight class (65lbs) from Ohio. He has had one close match in Ohio and that was to a kid named Cody Mathews. His coach told me he hadn't lost this year. Blue won 8-4 in a match that was actually closer than the scores seems. But my point is this. People always say Ky kids can't compete with OH kids. I say bull crap. We here at Johnson Central have 2 kids that travel 3, 4, and 5 hours to states such as PA, WV, OH, TN, VA and so on every weekend to compete with the best youth kids out there. Guess what they do compete and compete quite well. So I think Ky is catching up to the other states around us very quickly and they know it. Blues youth record is 42-3 with is only loses coming to a PA state champ(3-6), a OK state champ(3-5), a WV state champ(12-9) crazy match. So KY kids can and will compete with the best kids in the country IMO.

Yeah my son also won his youth and he actually finished 4th in middle school regions and qualified for middle school states. I was very proud of him. Hes been wrestling for only 2 years and is starting to come into his own.

    The Belt Series

Just wanting to see who was going. Im bringing my boy hes a 8yr old 65lber. Im also bringing a 9yr old 55lber with me. Hoping theres some pretty good competition there and the series turns out great. Were coming from 3 1/2 hours away for this tourney. So who else is going?
  17. As far as I know it is. But I will not be there so Im not sure. I will try to find out and let you know for sure.

    The Belt Series

Did he compete at state? How'd he do? My son is a 65lb 2nd grader. He won his bracket at state which i dont consider a true state competition but it is what it is.

    Team kentucky

I wish they would put a youth team Kentucky together. We could compete as a state in these youth tournaments.
  21. Due to the storms that hit Johnson County the tourney is cancelled. It will be rescheduled at a later date. Sorry for the slow update but the tornado that hit Johnson Co. I had no internet service. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  22. Real...you make whats real yourself. If you want to say its not real then go ahead thats fine. But the kids that come and wrestle and leave with bumps and bruises on them will show you just how real it is. Come on down and see what were about.
  23. How's it false advertising? Every other state has at least 2(most cases more) tournaments with the words "state" and "championship" in it. There's nothing false about it. If you want to come and wrestle that's great, come on down. If not that's fine also. But there will be a great Kentucky State Elementary Championship taking place either way. With some great young talent that can hang with anyone. It's already been proven.
