Middle School State MOW in your opinion????

I was myself standing right on the floor during this discussion as there were 3 board members within 10ft of me taking care of awards 4th board member on PA 5th board member walked up above as discussion was on MOW votes from board members. When the 3 on the floor were asked they gave who they thought, along with the other 2 which I clearly heard. Logan was the majority so he was the winner of the MOW by vote case closed pretty simple discussion if you ask me. The change from past years was that many coaches leave and cast a vote for a wrestler they "think" should get the award. If you are not staying the entire event you may miss valuable matches that could change your vote (if you are truly voting on the actual event day performance and not being a follower of who is expected). The State MOW is about that event, that day, and the performance of the entire day not just a few matches or other events through the season they have their own MOW's at those events. JMO but I do think it's more valid than just going with the flow

    Youth State-issue

I'm not sure about the rest of the state but I do know Region 5 in NKY for at least 12yrs teams have been told to have a copy of their wrestlers BC. I do know in the last 8 I have required it to be part of the sign up process of our team we make sure we have a copy ( most parents have one on file with the school so it's easy to get emailed). This has also been part of region 5 requirements for as long as I can remember previous team head coaches always had us make sure to be ready to provide if necessary or challenged. Easiest way is during sign ups we have a checklist of things required if it's not checked off they don't go to region period which means they don't go to state. Also, as a team we register our wrestlers for USA not the parents so we are entering the info to make sure it is correct. If other regions aren't doing this then there is a problem and it needs to be across the board standard.

Ok, now is this going to be the new "Duke Report"? So far you keep bringing the IL and IN kids to KY......

    Team Kentucky Youth Trials Tournament

I think that is a great compromise to have the origional date and then offer up placers of the other tourney to have an opportunity to challenge. More mat time for all which is what I think is the best in the end! Great job at coming to a decision that will be benificial to all the kids Jbrown1405 and all the other higher ups. Working together to get the best competitive team to represent Team KY is great to see.

Jbrown1405, it was menat as a joke as we are in KY and basketball is such a main focus as to where wrestling gets put on the back burner. Wrestling is such a tough sport (not saying basketball isn't) but It was kinda meant as let's not forget, these kids need any and all mat time they can get and we are already limited on getting that. It's not a sport where you have a team that you can lay blame on if you don't win. Guess I should have inserted an "lol" seems as if not to many can pick out the joke here lately.

    Team Kentucky Youth Trials Tournament

Guess I though we were talking about wrestling here and not basketball?? As I don't really have any wrestler that is personally attending the Team Ky tryouts I was simply trying to state an outside perspective who understands that not all parents can travel up to 7hrs. for some of the "other" great tourney's you mentioned REscalera. JBrown1405, my comment was that we do need to support Team KY (wrestling that is) and I think it's great that there are already coaches and parents that have planned, registered, and booked to attend the Kingsport tourney ( I do believe it will be more than 5 wrestlers also) which would be one that would be a "fair distance" for most KY wrestlers to travel to as well as other great tourney's like you mentioned in Wisconsin. Never did I say at any point that it had to be moved, I'm very glad to see that there was a quick response about possibly changing it or adding another date if there were going to be many other wrestlers that would be attending WRESTLING EVENTS during the origional date.

REscalers, you are right about experience that they will get and the competition is by all means spectacular! I think some of the parents are looking at it as the ability to get their kids on the mat with some more competition before we even hit into Heartland Duals. Most of these kids have seen the same opponents all season long and going into Heartland without seeing some unfamilar competition is like being blind sided. We have some great wrestlers but only a handful get to see what other states have to offer so any mat time wether it be an AAU, USA, or National tourney could be viewed as getting them ready for what is ahead. I don't any of the parents look at it as it's not important to be at the Team KY trials I just think they are trying to get all in that they can and hope to have the trials on a day where there may be no competition to attend.

Agreed Gameface, The Kingsport TN tourney is a great competition tourney, and more reasonable drive for KY wrestlers. I'd love a St. Louis tourney I have family down there but it would seem a waste if 20-30 potential Team KY wrestlers weren't able to try out because they were at tourney where there has already been many plans made by those families before the date set for Team KY try outs. Hope there will be a resolve to this situation I know we will be in Kingsport TN for that AAU tourney!
  9. I will say Adam Bender will do just fine!! The kid is a great wrestler and can handle quite a bit!! Even though when he was beating my wrestler I wasn't to happy about it I wish him all the luck along with many other wrestlers.
  10. Thanks Plantmanky1, as soon as i posted I checked the high school side and saw you were updating the info.
  11. Now that they have pushed back high school state will we be postponing youth state?
  12. Dutch and Ranger, , Thanks for the last minute breakdown/forecast, I think they all look really good and trust your insight as to how you have them called. With that said I have a vested intrest in the 105 bracket and I still believe you have made very good predictions. I must say I agree that Jake Insko had turned into a completely different wrestler over the last year and kick up his skills by a few notches! Love the kid and his father is a great guy! And Chase Yost has be firing on all cylinders too. I'm just waiting to see the whole day play out and been greatful we have had the chance over the last few years to be amoung the many talented wrestlers and coaches that have always given great advice, coaching, and respect to my wrestler and myself since I've been involved. Good luck to all the weights and all the wrestlers tomorrow.

    Middle Schhol State

Teams that go down the night before or Coaches that go Friday evening can go pay and get their packet then and be ready for weigh in the morning of. If all team members are not staying the evening before I recommend having a set meet time for all parents 30 mins prior to what you really want them to meet you. The earlier you weigh in the quicker it is and if you have kids waiting to eat breakfast this gives them plenty of time to eat. Last 3 years I've checked our team in the evening before and then had all kids meet in hotel lobby with head coach and we drive them all over to weigh in for the earliest time. Then we head them back to the hotel for breakfast and parents head back with us to the event.
