Junior program starts at 5pm and goes to 630pm. The high school guys start at 630-800pm. The mats are in the Freshman Building at Meade Co high school.
-
Meade Co will start the junior program the second week of March. The High School guys will be on the mats sometime after that and I will let you know more when I get the details. Coach Payne will be running the High School practice for USA wrestling. It is a structured practice focused on high percentage technique. Other schools are welcome to come and join. God Bless

What is the Worst Habits to avoid for HS wrestlers
snapdown133 replied to moosenuckle's topic in 2009 Season
Being ear to ear limits your offense and defense as Dinubus said. It's counter productive and frankly it is very boring to watch. Wrestlers should be looking for openings through angles and level changes by using set-ups. Not a lot of Kentucky wrestlers work an opponents head like they should. I also agree that down blocking is a great defense and I can only hope to see that type of basic wrestling being taught and practiced in KY. -
I loved snapping guys face first in the mat and my college weight class

Not drilling properly and often enough. Most kids want to learn new flashy technique that has a very low success rate. In my opinion they should be drilling the basics so when it is match time they don't have to think, they just react. Who cares if you know every wrestling move ever created if you can't do them when it counts. I hear kids all the time walking off the mat saying "oh yea I forgot" after losing a match. -
Can't agree with you more Ranger... The kids in region 3 work their butts off however other areas simply have feeder programs that supply the high school coaches with experienced wrestlers. Some of the schools have begun to change and are trying to adapt and become competitive by starting middle school and youth programs like Meade Co. and I think Southern. Until these programs have been established for several years there will be no real change in the outcome of this region in regards to the state tourney.

gatsby??? are you wrestling and if so what weight?

I recommend freestyle and greco to any and all wrestlers. Nothing like tech falling a guy in about 20 seconds and getting points for a feet over head throw. Just don't expose your back... easier said than done in freestyle.

i walk around about 152 so I guess 154

Sorry... I meant any OLD GUYS gonna wrestle in the open division???
-
how about it fellas??? any ok guys fell like wrestling in the open division? Sounds like fun...
-
excellent point... A wrestler should work off whatever his opponent gives him or whatever opening a wrestler can create and then capitalize on that mistake. Basics wins matches over and over again.
