  1. There are a couple NAIA nationally ranked teams going at it this coming Sat at Campbellsville University starting at 12 EST. Campbellsville (#4) will have a team dual against Notre Dame, OH (#1) followed by Lindsey Wilson (#17) against ND. (my understanding is LWC will not be dualing against Camp, though.) Great opportunity to see several nationally ranked wrestlers and some of our Ky bred college wrestlers go it.

    NWCA National College Wrestling Open

Had registered to wrestle in this tournament. Just received word that the tournament has been cancelled.

Are teams having practice on snow days

I can't say for sure about this year, but in years past our school DID practice on snow days. I actually called the County School Superintendent about it once to see if there was a policy. I was told it was left to the discretion of the school's principal. When I called the principal, I was told it was left to the discretion of the athletic director. And when I called the athletic director I was told it was left to the discretion of the coach. I'm sure each school (county? coach?) is different.

    Currently Wrestling In College

Isaac Ervin @ Mount Saint Joseph? Ryan Houchens @ Cleveland State
  6. Are these open matt practices open to just high schoolers or can youth and/or college attend as well?

    Best Overtime Matches you've seen.

Ethan Miller beating Elliot Martin at last year's State Duals in 3x overtime ending Martin's 102 win streak.

    Lobby for College Wrestling

I'm also amazed at the lack wrestling at area Div II colleges. Bellarmine is another example. (Look at what they're doing in basketball.) I know Bellarmine is very receptive to starting new minor type sports. They started Lacrosse not too long ago and are very competitive. I also know of an individual that got a swim club team started there a couple years ago. I hear the school is trying hard to rebalance the male to female student ratio (need more males). Wrestling would be a good fit there. You could probably start a competitive team with just the Trinity and St X grads. :-)

Campbellsville University v.s Mount St. Joseph 1-16-09

What I heard was that Campbellsville and MSJ each won 5 matches but Campbellsville won on points; something like 20-15. Eric Myer (MSJ) beat Voth while Linker won his match.

    Woodford County Invitational -Dec. 29/30

And didn't they already announce it at end of tournament that for next year it's on Tues (29th) & Wed (30th)?

    WCI

They announced during the finals that there were over 3,000 people watching the finals live on the internet; even someone from Afghanistan. That's pretty cool. I saw in the archives on this website that some of the region 7 duals was broadcast as well (audio only?). Wonder how we can get more wrestling tournaments broadcast? Awesome way to promote Ky wrestling as well as being a great (college) recruting tool.

    WCI

"but the finals with holtzclaw n ritchie were the worst of all of them. holtzclaw got atleast 3 takedowns in the final minute and they didnt give him any of them." I was within 15ft of the mat during that match. I can say assuredly that at least two,if not all 3 takedowns were out of bounds. (I'm not affiliated with either one of the schools represented so I had no dog in that fight.) They were legit "no calls". I was at WCI all two days for all the matches and from the overall lack of responses from coaches and parents in the stands, I would say the refs did a good job. There was a lot more "responses" at Reg 7 Super duals.
  13. Does one have to have special access to see these body fat tests or is there public access to us common everyday fans?

    Bishop Brossart-New Program.....needs help

I do really hope the Ky wrestling community supports this and all new programs; they need all the help they can get. If any of you have been keeping up with the politics of Ky high school sports (not just wrestling), though, as long as these private schools remain the whipping boys of a sport, they will be fine. But as soon as they start winning, the public schools start "boycotting" putting private schools on their schedule. It's already happening now. I know it's not the coaches doing this but their administrators, as coaches know you get better by playing against the best regardless of public or private. So Coach Bell, I really do wish you good luck. Just don't get too good.

    Bluegrass Challenge?

"...the tournament was run exactly the same as it has been for as long as i remember..." I know some will say "if it isn't broke, don't fix it". But I also learned a long time ago that if the answer to any question of why something is done the way it is is "we've always done it that way" is an immediate red flag that it probably needs changing. (This is the root of outdated meaningless traditions. Always know why and have a good reason to do what you're doing!!!) I don't say this to be critical but to highlight that for anything to get better, you always need to evaluate and reflect back on results. Be willing to change process. Be willing to try new things. If they don't work, fine, at least you tried in an effort to make it better. Couple suggestions: I agree you shouldn't set a deadline for registration but I still feel "promoting" early registration will only help matters; certainly can't hurt. To help promote early registration, do like most other sporting events in that you have a discounted registration fee for early registration. (Also discount registration fee for parents who have multiple kids participating? If the kids wrestling two divisions causes such a headache, charge them for each division they participate in? Don't shoot me; I'm just thinking out loud!) Establish remote weighin sites a lot sooner. Would be great if could get some of these sights to agree to be permanent so kids know where they can go each year instead of scrambling around at last minute. They just end up waiting to morning of. Publish a list of jobs (and # of people needed) you need volunteer help for and let folks sign up. I think a lot more people would volunteer if they knew what volunteering for. For us parents who get antsy sitting around all day waiting for our kids to wrestle, volunteering gives us something to do to pass the time and less time to complain.
