    Winning

i ve thought of that too. what if there is a minimum amount of wrestlers to be considered. (Just like for jodie meeks to be considered tops in free throw percentages he has to take a minimum number of shots.) so say a team has to have atleast 13 wrestlers then divide

    Winning

i have a question. Why not just divide a teams points by the number of elligible wrestlers. In my small brain it seems like this would elliminate the advantages the larger teams have.

    2009 Elementary Region 4 Information

Standing ovation to montgomery co. The regionals not only went smoothly but also very fast, i even made it home to see that cats loose. (boy did i miss that old fat drunk JOe B. ) On the serious side i cant wait to see how the wrestlers from region 4 represent at state. I wish all of our region the best.

    Elementary Reigonals and State

my son is ten and personally i dont care about wins and losses. Granted he has only lost one match this year and won a few tourny's but his wins hvae actually made him work harder. Winning will come and go but the habit of preparing to be his best will continue throughout his life. As i said he is 10 and no one with an ounce of self dignity seriously worries about what they did in sports in the 3rd and 4th grade. I veiw this time in his life as character building and learning the nuances of success. I dont worry about what someone else in his wieght class does and niether of us care that they were like 200 regional wrestling champs we still celebrated his success for 24 hours. (now its time to prepare to be his best again) Our concern is improving learning and growing. When ever i hear him start talking about how much he wants to win i just remind him of our mantras "perfect practice makes perfect", the will to prepare is greater than the will to win" and so forth.

Opinions on Kentucky Youth State Tournament

I was just hit with a epiphany!!!!!!!!!! Why not get rid of the refs in youth wrestling and just let the kids wrestle for fun. Then there would be no looser and we dont have to worry about bruising their ego. Winning is not everything and i just dont understand how this is taught if everyone wins. I lost my first 13 matches by pin, but still went on the place 3rd in districts that year. Why did i keep going, because the match itself was not the totality of my experience. By playing Don King and padding records and instilling false confidence in children we are playing into their bloated narcisistic tendacies. I have seen studs prematurely leave the wrestling community because they never turned the corner into win alley. Now i guess the coach could have padded their records and set them up against bums but no matter what they would have eventually hit the wall of realization and have to come to terms with the intagible character issues accosiated with winning and loosing. Truth is, it is very difficult to control winning, all we can do is to prepare to wrestle intelligently and developing a solid work ethic. But All of this is mute if we just want to use kids to develop the numbers in youth wrestling and get their family to join the booster club. Personally i say get rid of the refs and just tell em they won!!! Then they would nt feel bad about loosing.......(<---Sarcasim at its best)

Opinions on Kentucky Youth State Tournament

I dont know why someone asked for peoples opinion because many on here seem to have an inablity to take criticism without getting defensive or offended. So many getting lost chasing red herrings that are not important to the essence of relavant communication. Personally i had a great time although Yes it was much longer than it should have been. The refs sucked and yes people usually do say this but the refs sucked. Yes they were teens and yes they volunteered but the refs sucked, and they all sucked equally. JOhnson central is cheap,(with the revenue that the tourny brought into town business donations could have supplied the hospitality room) not even powdered gatorade and water in the hospitality room because there was no hospitality room, still i had a great time because i luv the sport and i met some wonderful people. I dont know the purpose for having a state championship when a state champion is not determined hmmmmm. If its going to be like that then lets call it the Lets Make All The Kids feel good tourny.

    Why?

My sentiments exactly .... well not exactly but in the same ball park, and that ball park happens to be centrally located and right off the interstate.......Unfortunatley complaining about just creates tension what we need is to have coaches and parents step up and prepare to host regionals and state tournys. Then we can ensure greater accessability. I would hate to see wrestling go the way of soccer and have it primarily for the children of the affluent.. Many economically challenged parents either cant take time off on the weekends or don't have the transportation, the money available for long distance trips. If we want to ensure greater accessability then we need more locally based youth wrestling programs in schools, churches, police leagues and after school programs. In short i would love to see wrestling programs as plentyful as basketball goals. If we all get involved then each regionals could eventually be 6oo kids and the state could be reserved for the best of the best. So now let me say this in the interest of building our dream: Im in lexington and two non profit community based organizations have contacted me about doing youth wrestling programs this summer. They have their own gyms and kids (and are open to including any other youth) but we are in need of mats......i was wondering if there is someone out there who could help.???
  9. If my son was older then i would be taking him to Ryle....(luv the atmoshere up there) but my son only 8 so i went to the Woodfords mats, they are open for all ages. Last night i went with my 2nd grader, he had an intense session against 4 different kids. They had about 9 coaches for the elemenatary, middle and high schoolers. All levels of talent seemed to be represented from beginner to kentuckys very accomplished Most Outstanding Wrestler Harrison Courtney. :-D

    Stalling - Wrestling

Personally i think stalling is an unappreciated art form. A better name for it is "looking busy" posting a shoulder, then lowering your level to touch a leg, next snapping the head and hitting a sad attempt at a single leg sweep. (which safely moves you out of the way of most counters) All the while you just trying to catch your breath and rhythm while forcing your opponent to be defensive and bring a pause to substancial activity. Or else you back to the edge of the mat then suddenly circling to position you opponents back toward the edge of the mat so you can hit a shot and go out of bounds. The ref calls you out and when he turns to walk back to the center, you happen to notice your shoes untied so you tie it and recognize that the other shoe is loose so you tie it also. Once you get back to the center before the ref blows the whistle you pull your socks up one at a time. These are just a few examples of the stalling (looking busy) art form. i believe in forcing a ref to make a call. Once he makes a call then you know what the limits are and usually if it is done right then by the time the ref calls it you ve caught your breath and the rhythm of the match is changed. For a variety of reasons most of us have times when we look busy at work or social settings we pretend to be busy toward friends and family. If stalling (lloking busy )is not done correctly then one should be punished by loosing a point or the match. Thats why it is so important to master the art of looking busy if one chooses to stall.

who was the most outstanding wrestler?

(Getting out my pom poms and going matmaid crazy) i told you that Courtney is the best in the state...Courtney is a killah...has real good blood lines.. :-D The W.c team as a whole surprised me, i never thought they would end up getting 3rd as a team. If they would have had decent upper wieghts they would have gave union a close run for the title. Union looked strong i was especially impressed with a couple of thier wrestlers i think it was 103 and 119lbers

Large public university to start wrestling team?

I doubt that U.k would start include a wrestling program (not a club) because of the limitations the S E C puts on them. The S.E.C used to have some powerhouse wrestling teams. Woodford Joe Carr and two of his brothers wrestled there and i think his brother Jimi (who is the youngest person to medal in Olympic wrestling) was at U.K. Joe even coached at U.K until the S.E.C. destroyed the program. So i believe that any effort should include Joe Sr atleast as an advisor. Let me put this thought out, find out what collegiate clubs are existing now, then allow every H.S program in the state to take up either donations/or pledge 100 dollars to a year. Since there are over 100 wrestling programs in the state this little fund can generate over 10 grand which is a lot considering they are getting little to nothing presently.
