    Region 5 Rankings - 12/15/08

You are not restricted by your body fat testing technically. You can get a doctor's note saying you are healthy to wrestle at whatever your weight is, even if it is below the minimum weight allowed by alpha testing. So if you think you are healthy enough to go below the weight it says, get a doctor's note. Simple as that.

    Getting practice as a referee

I know it's still awhile before wrestlers can hit the mat again, but I was wondering if any coaches in Louisville would let me (or other young refs) come in and ref wrestle-offs. This will be my 2nd year reffing, and I was only able to get 1 job reffing over the summer, so I'd like to brush up on my reffing skills before the season starts again. Just send me a message with your thoughts about reffing your wrestle-offs and your contact information so I can reach you once the season starts. This will be good for both the referees (because practice makes perfect) and wrestlers because they will get a better feel for how a referee will officiate the matches. I think it would be good for any other refs on here who need practice to post a similar thread. Hopefully with the support of coaches we can improve the quality and longevity of referees in the state of Kentucky. I know a couple of former young referees who quit reffing because they made a lot of mistakes in their first couple matches, got ripped a good one by the coaches, and quit because of that. With practice comes better reffing, less griping from coaches and wrestlers alike, and ultimately an overall improvement in the quality of Kentucky wrestling.

yes he was, and i specifically remember watching that match. the match shouldnt have even gone to overtime, im surprised courtney wasn't DQed because of stalling so much.

    Most Exciting Match

I didn't think it was very exciting, Davis dominated and Miller was just extremely gassed. Best match I thought was Houchens and Jones even though there were a ton of timeouts.

Union County 2 Wins 2 in a row

I was reffing a middle school tournament in early January, the one held at Fern Creek, and I was talking to the Union coach there. He said his sister or brother had 4 or 5 boys still young that wrestled, then he said a cousin or something had a few kids too. It was a long time ago, but from what I remember we'll be having a lot more Ervins keep coming. However, some of them don't always wrestle in Kentucky, a lot wrestle in Indiana because they are so close to the border.

    Most Exciting Match

I thought the HWT match between Whiting and Payne (the iroqouis kid) was the most entertaining with all the antics going on.

Matt Neal from SK DQ'd from regional

Thankyou. I would have DQed him also, we are told to throw a wrestler out if he cusses at you or insults you, and the same goes for coaches or fans.
