When I wrestled we had kids move into the state as well. The ones I'm thinking of came from florida. After the youngest was to go into the 9th grade their dad moved them to ohio to get them more exposure and experience. He got 2nd his jr year and 1st his senior year. Nothings changed on that front. It helps our sport. Most state champs celebrated even back in the 70's and 80's. Goal reached. I was not there this year to say anything about the 119 winners reaction. If ryle's 119 did not like it he will use that as fuel to use against the team of the 119 winner. The next kid will pay if the kid feels it was wrong. It works itself out. On the mat.....

2011 State Tournament Will Be @ Frankfort Again

If you take it back to a 16 man bracket you don't need more mats. They added 16 more people to pay for the convention center. Its all to get the dollar bill out of your pocket. Yes its a great place to host but guess what.... we can't afford it. So then I guess we do without. -
Kids are diff these days.

Ky is not that deep. The coaches don't need to be a part of it. Seed the regional winners. 1-8. If the deal is a question of 1 or 2.... they still are the furthest they can be apart. It should be very rare 1 2 3 and 4 all have claims to be a 1 or 2 seed.... at least they have only 1 of the top 4 in their half of the bracket. The less people involved in seeding the better. Just a little effort to keep the top 4 apart.

3 Northern Ky wrestlers in the elite 8! Keep it up!

Enjoy your time! It goes fast! Takedowns win! Don't give up needless points. Wrestler to gain a 6 point lead. If you take a kid down in the 1st min take him down again for a 1st period ending of 4-1. Same thing when it's your choice. 8-2. Don't stop moving on the bottom. If you can take your guy down... you should win. Wrestle smart. Takedowns... beat the head, beat the hands, get angles. beat the legs.

They picked a senior over a freshman. The freshman smoked everyone in his weight class. Awards like this is not a goal to be reached. It's one that is given to you. He does what he does he'll get one or two. One is plenty.

Yes Congrats to Davis.. David Ritchey Cald. Co. 3x er was a light weight. Not sure if he was 119 or 112 as a sr though.

If your worried about the draw then your not thinking your going to win 5 in a row.

Their are many reasons for MVW. Sometimes it can be effort and desire. SOmeone wrestling a good hard 6 min match never letting up. Its best not to pin the the kid. Why cut short your 6 min of glory. Beat him, tech him. The finals is the most important match. The weight class should be deep. Knock off a returning state champ. (Davis) Going in to the tour it belongs to Courtney. Earned for his career. It will be hard to take it from him. Fahy? He has time to get his later and it's 103..

I think it would be best for Kentucky to try to have the best two guys in the finals. Seed the top four as best you can. Being in the finals is a trip. If your the second best kid you earned the right to experience that. Kentucky is not a very deep state. Top four is plenty. We will always have the 3rd's are sometimes better than the seconds. Kids peak and get mentally focused. Some kids are tour wrestlers. Just be nice to put effort into TRYING to make the most exciting finals.

Davis vs. Shotwell -
A returning state champ has a bullseye on his chest everytime he steps on the mat. He should have had to deal with all year. Sounds easy to get in his head. I foresee rough waters ahead! :-o

Bear, I don't think you have seen Korey Shotwell wrestle this year. He no longer rides the legs until he has a 10 point lead then puts them in and pins. Korey has given up 3 take downs all year, all in Ohio against studs. He is no longer a sophomore but a very seasoned wrestler who is highly technical and aggressive. I don't believe this match will be close. -
Its going to happen much more with 32 man brackets. This may be the positive side of that. Younger kids getting more experience. I know some fishest in the top two that would have qualified in a 16 man bracket.
