I guess 14 inches of snow wasn't enough. Eastern Kentucky is getting another 2-4 inches today. With dangerous temps tomorrow this really puts region 8 in a tough spot.

Most region 8 schools will have 12-15 inches by 3:00am. We very cold temps to follow the rest of the week. I see Sheldon Clark being out of school for the remainder of the week.

Rule 2 Section 1 ART. 5 "The mat area includes the wrestling mat and a space of at least 10 feet surrounding the mat as well as the team benches and scorers table where facilities permit." Rule 2 Section 2 ART. 1 "For dual meets all team personnel, including coaches, other than actual participating contestants shall be restricted to an area which is at least 10 feel from the edge of the mat and the scorer's table where facilities permit" Rule 2 Section 2 ART. 2 "...coaches shall be seated at least 10 feet from the scorer's table where facilities permit" Rule 2 Section 3 "A scorer's table shall be placed at least 10 feet from the edge of the mat and from the team benches areas, where facilities permit" It seems like the common phrase "where facilities permit" makes this rule a little vague. There are pictures to help interpret the rule in the NFHS Wrestling Rules book however if your facility does not permit I guess you just go on as usual.

This would be a topic for the KHSAA to discuss. I could be wrong but I believe middle school kids "play up" in every sport besides football. Wrestling, basketball, baseball, softball, golf, tennis, etc all have middle school athletes competing at the high school level. If they wanted to stop one sport from allowing middle schoolers to "play up" they would probably have to make all sports ban middle school athletes at the high school level. We all know in the state of Kentucky that kind of rule will not be implimented unless it is supported by basketball coaches. So as long as basketball wants middle school athletes we will all have middle school athletes.

Today at work a former Sheldon Clark two time state runner up Brad Stafford suffered a serious injury. He fell from a truck and has some internal bleeding and swelling of the brain. He is in intensive care unit with a slight chance to pull through this. There is strength in prayer and God hears us all. Please keep Brad and his family in your prayers. He is a very strong young man and we are hoping he can pull through this. Thank you.

It is very sad to hear the news of losing a member of the wrestling family. Sounds like he was an extraordinary athlete who gave a lot back to his community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family from the Sheldon Clark wrestling team.

I would like to say congrats to all of the guys that competed at Nationals last week. I watched almost every KY boy's match and everyone represented our state very well. I would also like to thank Coach Brown from Trinity for coaching my boys since I was not able to due to a KHSAA bylaw. I had a great time coaching and getting to know other wrestlers from around the state. I hope this will show other KY wrestlers that they can compete at the national level and maybe we can take a much larger group next year.
