    High Schools picking up wrestling.

If this is true about Conner football, the coach needs to look to the school's past. A large part of their wrestling team has always been football players. In the very successful 80's, Conner's state championship teams were comprised of both. In 1983, they won the state wrestling championship. That fall, with a large number of wrestlers on the team, went on to win the AAA Football Championship. Between 1983 and 1985, Troy Cole and Matt Shotwell, both football players and wrestlers, won two team championships (football and wrestling - both 1983) and then four individual wrestling championships (two apiece). There were also several football players that placed during those years. Obviously, it was a formula that worked then. As far as the kids playing Boone County Pee Wee together, the 1983 team played together from the very beginning. I hope this isn't true and the kids are encouraged to participate in both sports. Seems to me the coach would be reminded on a daily basis how successful wrestlers and football players can be when participating in both. There are signs, plaques and murals all over the gym indicating the successes from those years.

Looks like a two horse race

Ryle is sending 14, Campbell County is sending 11

    Region 6

I am not predicting who will win the individual weights, I am trying to predict seeding. As you know, that is a huge determining factor in who is actually in the finals. Coach Ruschell's decision not to send his varsity team to NCAA may come back to haunt him. Campbell County has the upper hand right now as far as seeding the close weights. Mace may very well beat Black, but that doesn't change the seeding priority. With Black at number 1, he should be in the finals. Coyle vs Lee, both should be in the finals. Again, Coyle might prevail, but both should be in the finals thereby minimizing team champion. I doubt either will win by more than a few points. It is trivial, but Lee will be seeded number 1. 112 is a big deal. Fryar beat Ryle's 112 and placed high in the NCAA. He may have won it, I'm not sure. Seeding again will play a big role in determining the 2 finalists. I don't know the dossier of Ryle's 112. Supe is the favorite and will be seeding 1st. That will put Ryle and CC in the semi's. Big match. 125 could also be a factor. If Supe remains at 125, how will the seeds work out? Palmer and Schneider have not met. Supe is the returning regional champ. That may seed Supe number one and Palmer and Schneider 2 and 3. I will go out on a limb and give the better record to Schneider this year. He has won 3 of the last Ohio tournaments. These tournaments had 23,18,18 teams. He is 15 for 15 in the last 3 weeks. I'm not sure Palmer's record. Palmer won the Dragon, was Supe there? If Palmer and Schneider meet in the semi's, that is a big determining factor in region team champion. If they are separated, the winner in the finals will have less of an impact on team championship. I don't believe either one will win by more than a few points. If Supe drops, then everything is trivial. If he stays at 125, the best match of the entire region 6 will be at the seeding meeting! 130, I like CC's odds for making the finals. I would rather go against Bates than Norbury. Lonkard will be against Norbury. Boring weights for Ryle and CC. 119R, 135R, 140CC, 145CC, 171R, 189R, 215CC. All will win by pinning throughout, except for 135, I don't see Roland pinning his way through. With so many teams in region 6, byes will not play a big role. I think it will be a very exciting tournament. I'm not getting my invisilines until after the tournament. If it's close or controversial, I could lose some teeth in the big brawl!

    What's the Golden Triangle?
  10. I don't know what Abney weighed, but Yenter weighs about 92 on a good day. He's having a great season and holding his own. I can't wait to see him take on these guys when they are pound for pound!

    Beast of the East 08

You're right - the team does come first. Shotwell still has next year. Plus, they have some tough Ohio tournaments coming up - not the Beast, but still tough.

Shotwell and Brown were accepted, but this weekend is NKAC. This is the tournament for region 6 which decides the two teams for state duals.

    Bluegrass Challenge?

Armbar - I don't know what tournaments you go to in Kentucky, but I've been taking my son to tournaments for 12 years and this was the absolute LONGEST we've ever waited. We paid for this event (alot for a tournament). I find it extremely presumptuous that you would tell someone to shut up and be glad their kid could wrestle. The realities are: 1. It was a bad tournament - plain and simple. 2. People were aggravated - including Mr. McCoy. 3. My son's bracket was wrong and was not fixed. He should have been in the finals and as we were leaving he was being called for 3rd and 4th. What a shame that kids turned out to wrestle and left without their matches. 4. Those of us who have elite wrestlers and have been around a long time know how to run tournaments. Most of the people on this site have run tournaments, coached and reffed. Also we are spectators, fanatics and parents who know the sport inside and out. Don't be delusional and think you and Mr. McCoy are the only people in Kentucky who can run a tournament. 5. Stand back and look at the criticism. Is it true? And how can it be fixed? Don't be so emotional. Just fix it. Otherwise, this tournament will go down the tubes.

    Bluegrass Challenge?

The wait times were brutal. The parents of the younger kids probably thought the tournament was great, afterall, it started on time and their brackets were completed in a timely manner. The older kids sat and waited and waited and waited. The end of the tournament was a debacle. Losers were advanced into the finals and the mistake not uncovered until after the championship match was wrestled. Many wrestlers left and never even wrestled their championship match because they had already wrestled 4 times in just over an hour. At the end of the tournament, kids were standing on the mat waiting for their opponent to show up when in fact they had already left the building. The announcer kept saying over the intercom "the tournament is not over people". The end was a fizzle at best. During the day one wrestler won a match 8-6, his hand was raised, the wrestler signed the bracket and went into the stands. Both wrestlers left the mat. 5 minutes later both wrestlers were called back to the mat over the intercom. They were told the match was tied. This broke all rules. Now the wrestler who won got to face an opponent mad and determined to win in overtime. The initial winner now lost in overtime. After winning a match there is a psychological deflation. Wrestlers need to prepare for a match both physically and mentally. When both wrestlers left the mat, the bout sheet signed and turned in, the match was over. To pull the winner out of the stands 5 minutes later, was wrong. Overall, yesterday was a poor display of what should otherwise be Kentucky's finest.
