    Girls weights information

It does except when you consider that: 1) womens college heavyweight is 191 lbs 2) olympics womens heavyweight is 76kg (~167 lbs) 3) womens college lightest weight is 101 lbs 4) olympics lightest weight is 50kg (~110 lbs) Not that these facts preclude us from having higher weights, but it does make me question if the participation will justify the higher weights.
  2. A bit slow being 2 weeks into practice, but we have to start somewhere. Thanks for the nudge JW. I've adjust a few weights based on off season info, but we will get a lot more data in the coming weeks as team complete their body fat testing. Rankings2324_Oct29.pdf
  3. Ok, way way too busy, but figured I need to post this before we get into the school year and the season gets closer. I just removed the seniors and maybe added a few guys that didn't finish the season. Also added a tribute to a great wrestler and young coach that we lost recently, Max Emerson. Two letters on a page don't really mean a lot, but it is a small gesture of appreciation to a great person that appreciated these rankings. I will be working on adjusting weights over the next couple months based on what I have seen/heard over the summer. Rankings2324_Aug6.pdf
  4. I have something started. Still debating if I want to commit to actually doing both.
  5. I have a lot of kids at the wrong weights... It's all good. I'm going to work on being more patient with folks this year. Ask myself what would Jesus do? And listen to my wife who sings to me "Let it go". Ha Ha.
  6. Very good day of wrestling. Great Crossing did a great job hosting and running the event (as usual) and a solid turnout from across the state.

    off-season tournament schedule

Nice fairly central location for FS/GR state. Let's get a big crowd down to Great Crossing for that event.

    2023 Ranger Report

Too late for any peer review or editing. Maybe tomorrow I will get a few minutes to re-read it and make some corrections. Maybe not. Oh well. Ranger Report 2023.pdf

    Post State Thoughts

Good stuff there GOO. Sort of surprised at the balance between semi-states, but with only a 16 man bracket (8-8 split) it almost forces a certain level of balance. I think the finalist and champ numbers confirm SS1 was clearly stronger at the top this year. And region 1 is TOUGH right now.

    Post State Thoughts

Love those throwback photos from youth/ms. Awesome stuff! I’ve seen some absolutely ridiculous podium pics from the old “young” days.

    Not looking forward to state.

Absolutely awesome experience at the Dungeon.
  13. Final rankings of the year heading into State Final round. This is not a list of who is left or a prediction of finish (doesn't consider the bracket). Over the next few days I will be working on the write-up and predictions. Only comments I will add from the weekend... - Semi-state in a HS gym (even large gyms) is painful; a great, competitive event with some awesome matches, but not a fun experience - Johnson Central has a great team with great kids beyond wrestling Rankings_22_23_0220.pdf
  14. Oh yeah. I haven't been to a state tournament on adequate sleep in over a decade. Why start now?
  15. There a few teams that I feel like have some great coaches and great kids. But this weekend it really stood out in an overcrowded gym in a highly competitive environment. Not unexpected, but very noteworthy.
  16. That class (2026) in general is looking very tough across a lot of weights.
  17. Couple things. He did have a great run late in the year and it is terrible what it sounds like happened to him, but these rankings won't do anything to fix that. It does bring up a good consideration though as to my process. In general when a kid isn't in a post season bracket I remove them, but when kids simply don't advance I let them fall wherever they fall in the rankings. That isn't exactly consistent and I should give it some thought. I also treat seniors differently knowing they won't be back, but I don't want to skew where the younger guys are in the rankings as I prepare for next season.
  18. Oh they do. But you can't just ignore the current trend. All of these forfeits make it really hard as well. I know some kids are banged up, but it makes it really hard to reflect what is happening in the results.
  19. It's more of a momentum thing. Lost most recent to Phillips and his loss to East pulls him down. Brown had a great semi-state with a couple top 10 wins.
  20. After a great first weekend of the post season, we head to the semi-state round at Atherton and Ryle on Saturday. Highlights and big results from Region weekend: - East over Badida at 106 - Heady beats Campbell at 113 - Condi over Davis at 120 - Williams over Teutsch at 126 - Whorton moves back up to 132 - Brown over Johns at 138 - Mays over Mayes at 144 - Faucett over Burchett at 165 - Johnson Central moves = McCoart to 190 and Davis to 175 - Brown over Wimberly at 190 - Pogue and Nicodemus over Sherrill at 215 - Arnold over Rodriguez and Guillaume over Lewis at 285 That was a lot. There will be a ton of great matches this weekend so this won't even scratch the surface, but here are some interesting Round 1 and potential Round 2 matches at each semi-state: - SS1 106 #1 Valera v #8 Smith - SS2 106 #6 Badida v #9 Phillips - SS2 113 #9 Gardner v #10 White, #6 Roberts v #9 Gardner, #2 Evans v #8 Joseph, #4 Orth v #7 Smith - SS1 120 #3 Hardin v #10 Bailey, #9 Motta v #11 Brown - SS2 120 #6 McCloskey v #8 Cano (this could be a barnburner) - SS1 126 #7 Teutsch v #8 Gonzalez - SS2 126 #5 Nelson v #11 Page (Page didn't have his best day at Region), #5 Nelson v #9 Thompson, #4 Ferraro v #10 Cantrell - SS1 132 #6 Walls v #9 Harrod - SS2 132 #10 Sulfsted v #11 Nardelli, #5 Roberts v #8 Tucker - SS1 138 #6 Frazier v #10 Collins, #5 Ray v #11 Durbin, #3 Johns v #4 Lehman - SS1 144 #9 Latin v #10 Williams, #3 Mays v #5 Villums, #4 Mayes v #7 McGill, #1 Beane v #8 Nichols - SS1 150 #8 Jarvis v #10 Arnold, #1 Rider v #8 Jarvis, #7 Fletcher v #9 Ball - SS1 157 4 Ricketts v #6 Millet, #7 Krebs v #11 Fulkerson - SS2 157 #5 Butler v #9 Banfield, #10 Ross v #12 Hutchison - SS1 165 #5 Faucett v #8 Wilson, #11 Murphy v #12 Poynter - SS2 165 #4 Matney v #9 Lamier, #7 Young v #10 Dennemann - SS1 175 #9 Soeder v #12 Allen, #2 Ricketts v #9 Soeder, #6 James v #8 Harris - SS1 190 #2 Virzi v #7 Roth, #3 Mettling v #9 Wimberly, #1 Kiser v #8 Brown - SS1 215 #4 Cranfill v #8 Sherrill, #5 Bertin v #6 Pogue, #1 Silva v #7 Nicodemus - SS1 285 #2 Mooney v #7 Kays - SS2 285 #4 Rodriguez v #9 Tallent Man, that was a lot as well. 21. Noted. Thanks for clarifying that.

KY Freestyle / Greco National Teams info

Great to see Coach Landals get this info out and shared with coaches and kids. I would encourage any and all wrestlers to try out freestyle and greco this off season. Have fun with it and learn some new skills.
  23. It helps going into next year as well. Those guys maintain their relative ranking, but I do remove wrestlers who do not compete at the end of the season.
  24. When I update rankings I don't totally remove someone just because they didn't qualify, because I still view them as a top 30 wrestler. For example, if a region had 5 top 10 guys, the #10 guy shouldn't fall off by finishing 5th at region, but obviously won't place at state.

    NFHS Wrestling Survey

3 pt first takedown creates too many complications. Either change all TD to 3 or leave it 2.
