  1. Lots of changes and I'm sure more are coming in the next few weeks Rankings_23_24_0111.pdf
  2. Ironically, I agree 100% with that quote. But I do believe there is significant value in rankings.
  3. what do you mean by mixed up? I'm taking their results straight out of track.

    1/14/24 Girls Rankings

There is no "registration" for region. This is not like ms or an open event. Your varsity coach will enter the lineup for the regional tournament.
  5. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year holiday with plenty of quality time with family and friends. And with the holiday break comes the 2 pound gift from Santa. As I scan the results I have tried to move wrestlers to the lowest weight they have competed at (considering lineup) and also removed wrestlers that I don't see any results for. There are still a number of coaches who don't regularly keep results up to date, so I can only work with what I have. A few notes: - I have Union County with a HUGE lead in the team race. A couple of the teams in the race have wrestlers that can move into big point scoring position, but we will have to wait to see that happen. Teams 2-6 can go in any order. They all have strengths and weaknesses and seem to still be working on their final lineups. But I would also add that teams 7-11 aren't terribly far behind that second tier of teams. - 126 and 157 both look to be deep and exciting to see how they will play out. 126 has a couple state champs at the top, but a lot of talent behind that. 132 also has two state champs at this point. - Go check out the Max Emerson foundation scholarship information and nominate a deserving wrestler to be recognized and earn a nice award in memory of a great wrestler, coach, and man Rankings_23_24_0102.pdf
  6. Generally I post on Wednesdays to have a few days to review results from the weekend (at least what are posted). Team rankings are always included.

    Girl weight certification date

We are running the teams totally separate. Keeps it simple.
  9. oh yeah. that is interesting. very interesting.
  10. A lot of things are starting to solidify (as much as they can in December). Now that we have a couple tournaments in the books, even 106 is filling out. I'm sure there will still be some weight movement, but a couple weight classes are shaping up to be must see action at the horse park. While it looks like Union County has as sizeable margin at this point, the trophy race could be very interesting between JC, Great Crossing, and Ryle (if healthy). Also, I wouldn't count out Trinity and Oldham County just yet. I will add that a few up and coming teams have been very impressive early this season. Taylor County, Boyle County, and Madison Central have all had really good showings against some of the traditional power programs. You can really see the growth from kids in those areas putting in a lot of off season work. I want to put a plug in for the Maxwell Emerson foundation scholarship that has been posted on this site and hopefully many of you will hear about it from your coaches. It will be awarded to a senior wrestler in February at the state tournament in honor of Oldham County wrestler, coach, and teacher Max Emerson. If you have any questions or need information send me a message and I will be glad to help out. Rankings_23_24_1212.pdf

    Duals

Absolutely! Incredible moment. Was just talking about that amazing dual with Larue at practice to the kids. Even an individual loss can be significant especially when you have that effort and it helps the team win the dual.

    Duals

EXACTLY! People are so selfish and self absorbed these days, it is awesome to see kids and fans really invested in someone else succeeding.

    Duals

I'm with you that I prefer the individual tournament format. But duals have definitely grown on me over the years and I really enjoy it when a team gets behind each other especially when they realize the "worst" kid in the lineup is actually important to the team success. I we have 100% seen that worst kid literally win duals for us. And I will add, yes putting words in my kid's mouth, I think Spencer would say some of the highlights of his high school career were dual meets even on the same level as winning his state titles.
  15. Still a lot of updates to make, but figured I would go ahead and post an update to reflect a good chunk of the weight changes and results that I have seen thus far. I don't know that I have seen this much growth in kids before; very surprising to see some of these weight changes. Rankings_23_24_1205.pdf
  16. hoping to be back on the mat soon
  17. Possibly. Very few of the results from last weekend we loaded when I was making updates. Hopefully as coaches get in the rhythm more results will get in quicker. Either way, those results will be reflected soon.
  18. Quick update to kick off the season. I haven't really looked at any of the limited results from the weekend, but have looked at a lot of weight assessments. Over the next few weeks I will reflect a lot of the actual weight changes on the mat. A few notes. At this point it is looking like Union County is poised to return to their spot at the top of the mountain. I also have the top 4 teams with a significant gap on the field. Rankings_23_24_1128.pdf

    Girls weights information

Again, not saying we shouldn't have 285 to give girls an opportunity as long as there is a need. I just find it a bit ironic how we've had plenty of feedback about how we need to get rid of 106 because it is just a middle school weight class when 1) virtually every other state has it and manages to hold a solid post season bracket with it 2) we actually have enough kids to fill the post season brackets 3) the olympics/college lightest weight for full grown adults is less than 20% higher than 106. But we forced the NFHS to create a weight class that is 70% higher than the full grown female weight for the olympics and almost 50% above the college heavyweight. I'm just glad we have weights and can move ahead. I'm good with it. We can re-evaluate next year or the year after when we have some real data on participation.
