Maybe in Eastern KY they are… Nobody is knocking your kid or any of the (Hold Back Kids) but when you guys come on here talking about how proud you are for winning a MS tournament or winning/placing at a HS tournament as an 15 year old 8th grader it tends to aggravate the kids and parents who don’t hold their kids back and are truly wrestling their age or up a weight class. You said he always wrestles up but last year at MS State he weighed in using the 2lb allowance at 113 that’s not Wrestling up… Wrestling up would be wrestling 121lb Again not knocking your kid he’s pretty good but the best thing you guys could do is what the western part of the state does and not chime in on these arguments or not post stuff to bring the attention to it. Good Luck to yours and all the kids this weekend and next

It’s not just James Morris but all three “middle school” wrestlers (Smith, Matney, and Morris) that Johnson central boasts about are going to be 16 this year. However I think it’s a trend that is seen more and more in schools. You can’t really blame the youth tournaments when they go by birth years. If they went by grades, it would be ridiculous.

I feel the same way about Ryle’s ability to handle this tournament next year. It will be a complete mess.

By the time state rolls around, there are several head to heads for most people. Especially after the regional tournament. Yeah, some teams dodge tough competition the whole year and have absurd records, but those kids will get weeded out after regionals.

Wow l guess you guys forgot about Beane at 144 !! He’s not my kid but l’ll put $20 on him if either of you are takers !! LOl

Wow you are really trying to be abrasive. I am not bragging about anyone. Just trying to understand your point. But you keep just trying to make it into a conflict. Some times the topics become intertwined with high school. By the way you were bragging about your grandson making it to high school semi state on this topic correct? Which you should. It’s something to be proud of too. But should you mention that here or on the high school section by your logic. Lol.

I am missing the point I guess. He won his high school region against kids his age and older. I thought your point was he’s not competing against kids his age. At this rate I don’t think i will ever get it I guess. Some days I’m just too slow to keep up. Good luck to your grandson. What semi state will he be at. 1 or 2

People mistake me for the Rock all the time!! It happens, I don't judge them!!

Come on man ,are you really arguing over a #17 spot ? we are lucky that Ranger takes the time to even do a top 30 ,most states only do a top 10 . Cut Ranger some slack ,we are so fortunate that he takes the time to do this at at alll !!

The problem with seeding is that the “two best kids” are always subjective. One of the true historians around here can probably answer this - how many times have the “1 & 2” been on opposite sides of the bracket and still not meet in the finals? You see this all the time in college - the ncaa’s are seeded all the way out and the 1&2’s very rarely meet in the finals. If it could be done right, I’d probably be all for it, but where’s the fun in that? If we all knew who truly was 1 & 2, 3 & 4, etc., then why wrestle the tournament if it’s already predetermined? Trust me, there are many matches where I believed it should’ve been the finals match, but at least I still got to see the match regardless of where it happened. Sure, some kids may get “screwed” but that’s the name of the game, unfortunately. They shouldn’t seed the tournament simply because it can’t be done. Prove me wrong with facts and I’ll easily concede my argument.

The issue is if you have hands down the top 2 kids in the state wrestle in the semifinals at semi state they could end up on the same side at state. The track seeding though not perfect is a lot better than this garbage.

It's a joke. Youth should be able to do both youth and middle school. Or make 12u and 14u at youth state for beginners or kids that didn't Qual through regional. Also don't understand why held back 3rd grade kids can't do middle school.

They aren't trying to go back to a 16 man state. They don't have a "everybody deserves a trophy mentality." They are broke. If they had money, the state tournament would be in an arena somewhere with 32 man brackets like it was. That's what everyone wants, even the KHSAA. They can't can't just split the normal tournament in half because the way the match ups are made and the way brackets cross. Teams would have wrestlers at both semi states. So yeah, it's a little different, but they're trying to do right by the kids and keep 32 wrestlers in the post season after region. It's not ideal, but it's not permanent either.

I can’t help but feel bad for their teammates in their respective weight classes. Shutting them out of a chance at an individual title state title seems pretty selfish IMO because we all know they won’t be beat.

So let me get this straight… a kid cannot place in top 4 at middle school then compete their age/weight at youth state. But a kid can go to high school state and win/place and can still win/place same at middle school?!? Something seems wrong with this if I’m understanding correctly?!? please clarify.

This is completely absurd. There should be no stipulation between Middle school and youth state if there is none between high school and middle school. Why should it be any different? I guess I need to actually contact a governing body such as USA wrestling board instead of a forum to better understand this. I’m new to all of this just this year and learning as I go, but that seems completely unfair, needs a universal rule.

It’s so funny reading this tread. The same people who say “you wanna be the best, you gotta beat the best” are complaining about a blind draw. I guess it’s only fair if there team/child is receiving the lesser ranked opponent. A blind draw gives all the kids a chance. Just saying practice what you preach. Good luck to all these young men. Who’s season hasn’t ended yet. And hopefully we won’t see to many Uncle Rico’s this weekend.

I’m confused on why Malachi is ranked 26th if he’s beat the 17th ranked guy

I’m confused on why Malachi is ranked 26th if he’s beat the 17th ranked guy in #165. Also Parker McKee is ranked 7th at #120 but wrestles #126

You’re missing the point. That’s what what I’m saying. So what he won his region? He’s gonna be 16 in a few months. HS or MS. Doesn’t matter. No my grandson is 120.
  21. -1 points
Yes, you are missing it because this is in the “Youth” section of the messsge boards. If you or anyone else wants to brag about what he or any other “old” 8th grader did then take it to the “High School” section. It’s not that hard to comprehend. Really. Sorry you’re slow and can’t grasp that.

Is it a shame they are wrestling HS 17 an 18 year olds??? Some of them 17 year olds will be 18 an some of the 18 year olds will be 19 this year
