    Youth State Duals

Good Lord. Why are people still crying over this? The Juggernauts obviously weren’t concerned about your opinion or they would’ve asked for it. The rules were followed. The state duals were decided on the mats. If there is a vote in the spring, so be it! But don’t cry somebody cheated when they obviously didn’t. They may not have met YOUR rules but it doesn’t seem ANYBODY is concerned with your rules. The Warhawks and the Cardinals have bigger rosters than they’ve ever had so somebody is growing the sport. Maybe you don’t know as much as you think you do. This is really getting old. It’s over with. Pull up your big girl panties and get over it!

    Youth State Duals

We would love to have came to state duals and competed and nothing been said. However, certain teams decided they would not allow that. I felt like we have stayed classy but we grow tired of accusations that there was some big loophole that we exploited. None of the coaches had ever went to state duals. What we did is seen what was required and met those requirements. There was no big secret meeting of the minds to circumvent holes in the rules, that’s nonsense.

This pic is from 2018. Not sure how this pic is the Juggernauts rubbing things in. This pic is proof these teams and coaches have a close relationship.

So... if everyone would have known this was allowed everyone would’ve had a full team and pulled kids...? Sounds like you should maybe find better coaching. AND you admit that it IS allowed. This case seems closed and I’m bored.

    Youth State Duals

Looks like from the graphic you just posted Martin Co and the Warhawks seem to be getting things done as well. Does anybody know who won State at Division 2 last year? And... who was runner up? Fact is nobody cheated. Some people got their lil feelings hurt and that’s it. The Juggernauts did everything they were supposed to do and played by the rules and won. So... if you don’t like it change the rules. But you can’t cry that somebody cheated if no rules were broken.

Nathan Begley, who you have ranked at 140, is a high schooler.

    State Tournament Brackets

I wrestled in the 90' s and there was no need to seed the state tournament. The wrestlers decided their draw by how they placed at Region. I prefer to go back to the three weekends of wrestling and lettin the wrestlers decide where try are seeded for the state tournament based on how they wrestled at regions. Top 4 from district continued to region (districts), top 4 from region(4 regions), seeded in state tourney based on regional placement (regional winners were 1 seeds and you split up regionals and everyone else fell in line). There were fewer wrestlers in the state then than there are now, not sure why this format was changed but I think was a mistake. Bye, it used to be an accomplishment to wrestle at state but now, as has been said, almost everyone gets to wrestle at state.

Disagree, I believe medals, especially at state, do help growth. We (Martin County) have started to have some success at the state tournament. We won divison 3 last year and we seen a big influx in our numbers, especially for a county this size. Now we did not just set back and it happened. We publicized our success, we printed T shirts, we held camps but nothing can recruit like success. When little Jimmy sees little Johnny doing good little Jimmy might decide to give it a shot. Imagine your 8 years old and your buddy is in the newspaper for winning the state wrestling championship. He's got a big trophy, his coaches have their arm around him, he's got a big smile on his face. THAT makes kids want to try things. So yeah, I believe medals do help with your growth. You guys did a great job!!

Plus, I would think we would have to go to weight classes instead if the 10% rule.the way things are right now you can wrestle at region and be in a different bracket at state. Or not wrestle at region and wrestle at state. Seen both scenarios this weekend.

I think we continue to focus on getting more kids involved in the sport. Not only on a state level but a local level. IMO, qualifiers for a youth state tournament is a turn in the wrong direction. I think the state tournament is a great experience for a young wrestler. And a experience they should all have.

This is youth wrestling not elementary wrestling. A 12 year old 7th grader has NO advantage over a 12 year old 6th grader. So, until it is changed to elementary wrestling instead of youth wrestling you have no point.

We fell short of hardware but we had a lot of 1st year kids and moved up in divisions. We had 14 kids wrestle at state last year and 22 this year, not counting the 3 who had to scratch. Which means we are certainly growing and still being pretty competitive. I hope through our efforts we can get Martin County (Sheldon Clark) back to where they once were... and beyond!!
  14. I enjoyed the tournament. I still like 8 man brackets for the sake of growing the sport. I say more medals, more trophies equals more kids. But I think I have a compromise. And just something to consider. Would it be feasible to have 8 man brackets for kids 8 and under and 16 man brackets for 9 and up?? That would give the younger kids plenty of reward and introduce the older kids to a much more competitive tourney. Just food for thought.
  15. I would love to be heading to Georgetown but I have to work 3rd shift. One more night at the coal mines before I can head that way!!
