the final bout count was 531...it was a great day of wrestling and for that many bouts was ran very well. Great job coach McCoy

    Any results from BSG?

they were turned in to the Bluegrass State Games and should be on their website hopefully in the coming week. I know the 130 junior (I believe) I was stacked. The weight class was actually seeded for the top 8 wrestlers there. Lots of state placers/qualifers facing off.

    Bluegrass Challenge?

I would like to again state that you never have or will hear coach mccoy mathound, or anyone else involved in the running of the BGSG ask or expect thanks or accolades for the running of this event. Those involved do it for the kids. For the long wait times I know everyone involved is sorry. I do agree with Kalen...lets talk about real solutions rather than coming in here and making comments that dont need to be made. As for the people that feel the waiting was disrespectful thats a stretch was it an inconvience sure but they were not doing it to disresepct any parent coach wrestler etc in this state. I agree with Kalen, Coach McCoy is one of the easiest people to work with and is very receptive to SUGGESTIONS not insults. We do need to promote participation as stated above if you dont let people in because they didnt register soon enough that will keep numbers down. I think we need to stop the criticism and take it as a lesson learned.

    Bluegrass Challenge?

anyone that has ever been a part of wrestling knows you wait. I grew up in Ohio and did most of my wrestling there and they have the waits as well. No matter where you go you will wait. The amount of volunteer hours that go into this tournament is crazy. I was one of the referees today and I was willing to volunteer my time. I did not even know until I got there today I was going to be paid. These summer tournaments are designed for one reason.....to make Kentucky wrestlers better. You cannot get better by not wrestling. I am sorry for those that had to wait. But like Mathound said...did you preregister? The more work that can be done 1 week or 2 weeks before makes everything go smoother. Congrats to all of the wrestlers that competed and thanks to Coach McCoy for running the tournament. This man will do anything he can to help grow KY wrestling. We need more coaches like that out there!!!

    Matt Zarth

first matt zarth is a great kid..i know him very well and his dad pretty well...secondly why lexington does not have feeder programs is for a couple reasons. it is to my understanding not all the principals/ad's are on board because of the liability involved in out sport. also lexington middle schools cannot compete out of the city other than regional and state tournaments. this is a fayette co rule. so for instance if jesse clark had a team they could not go to woodford co and wrestle, but they could have woodford co come to lex...its a stupid rule. so it really does not do lexington a whole lot of good to have just a few of the middle schools to pick up the sport we really need them all too.

    Growth of KY Wrestling

I grew up and wrestled all through middle school and high school in the state of Ohio. I had been exposed to KY wrestling a few times during my high school years because my dad lived in kentucky. I worked out with teams in the area during my school breaks around christmas and summer to stay in shape. When i first came down to say i wasnt impressed at all would be being nice. And i do not mean that about any team individual or the sport in this state at a personal level at all. Since I have moved down here five years ago now..and have coached here for 2 years...I have been very impressed with the growth and the level of competition in the state of kentucky. I feel the athletes and coaches all have come a very long way in a short period of time. With more schools joining every year I see no reason why this growth cannot continue. Great job to all the coaches and more importantly the atheletes for putting in the work needed to help this great sport grow.

    Lafayette Scrimage

it went pretty well for a scrimmage at teh start of a season. some kids looked strong while others looked like it was the beginning of the year. the most important thing is it got all the kids match experience before the season started.
  12. i know its posted on the main page, but i just wanted to say due to gym reservations the clinic will still be today, but from 5:00 until 7:00 and is in the Henry Clay High School gymnasium
  13. wow what an opportunity for wrestlers in the state. coaches/kids need to take advantage of this to really help the sport grow in kentucky which i think is the larger goal of all of us. coach davis has an excellent resume that rivals the best. i hope the turn out is great. thanks to the guys in lexington for arranging this
